Cripes! Charlie can't help himself, can he? Takes a guy out because he gave up a seeing eye single after two quick outs and brings in a guy who looks gassed and can't hit the strike zone. And he might bring him back out for a 2nd inning. WTF?

Pulling Stripling after one soft hit was ridiculous if the bullpen is actually this decimated.

Eh third inning of work with the lineup turning over. I get the decision but I would have given him one more batter since there was 2 out.

To me, it sounds like Ryu might have TJ surgery in the future. Doesn't sound good. Elbow tightness, or whatever it was last time, and today again some forearm issues. Not good.

I think it was forearm both times. Originally it was reported as elbow but they reclassified to a forearm thing after more info.

When I thought everyone would be available I didn't hate pulling Striping when they did. Phelps takes the 8th, Romano the 9th. When it became apparent that at least 1 and possibly both of Romano and Cimber weren't available that's when I had a huge problem with it. You've got essentially 2 guys left until you're relying on Thornton and you force the 1st guy to go more than 1 inning because Stripling gave up a random weak hit with 2 outs?

Perhaps Stripling was on a pitch limit given he hasn't gone than long since he was started games 3 weeks ago, but that's about the only reasonable explanation given we weren't that far removed from having to use Thornton in a 2 run game in the 8th with runners on base.

Also Danny Jackson is a folk hero and it's going to be sad when he's not playing tomorrow.

But I'm going to be ok with Tapia in the lineup tomorrow because he's been hot. I assume it'll probably be Tapia playing with Teo DHing. Wouldn't be shocked if they gave Gurriel a day off as well to get Biggio back in there either.

I think part of the reason for pulling Stripling earlier than usual it sounds like Ryu is going to miss a few starts, or far more, and this way Stripling may be able to jump into that spot.

I would think the opposite in that case. You want to stretch him out. He wouldnt pitch again until 5 games from now. Essentially just treat it like today was his first start of a series of starts. In theory you’d want him to go as far as his limit allows if the game situation allows for it.

perhaps that was his pitch limit though.

Blue Jays starter Hyun Jin Ryu exited his start against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday after four innings with left forearm tightness. It was the second time in as many starts the left-hander has reported feeling arm pain afterward.

After the game, Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo said Ryu would go for imaging on his left arm to determine the cause of the issue. The team will proceed with a plan from there.

Ryu gave up a leadoff home run to White Sox left fielder AJ Pollock in the first inning Wednesday. In all, he gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits over four innings with four strikeouts. Throughout the start, his velocity was noticeably lower than his season average. His fastball averaged 87.6 mph, down from his typical 89.6 mph.

“I'm not going to speculate because I'm not a doctor or anything, but what I'm going to (do) is give him a compliment for giving us four innings,” Montoyo said. “Even though he was of course, you guys saw, throwing 86, 87, 88 (mph). And he found a way to give us four innings because our bullpen was short.”

After his last start against the Los Angeles Angels, Ryu reported feeling tightness in his elbow, but it was determined he was OK to make the start Wednesday, though Montoyo said before the game he'd be closely monitored. Earlier this season, Ryu spent nearly a month on the injured list with left forearm inflammation.

After the game Wednesday, Ryu said the tightness in his arm felt similar to what he experienced in April when he landed on the IL.

Ryu said through his translator that he felt fine coming into the game, but after going through the outing, “I kind of regret playing today's game.”

Despite Ryu’s early exit, the Blue Jays beat the White Sox 7-3, earning their seventh straight victory.

Ryu is in his third year of a four-year, $80 million contract with the Blue Jays.

Looks like it's safe to say Jansen has fixed his swing plane problem. Turns out he was trying to hit the ball everywhere before. Now he's focusing on being a dead-pull hitter. Of course, we'll see if he can keep that up after pitchers adjust. And yay for Bichette FINALLY stopped swinging at balls in the dirt. I imagine his father called him up and gave him an ear full.

Okay so its looking like Ryu is done. Do we need another pitcher or run with our existing staff with Stripling?

Stripling. He's been very good so far this year, certainly way better than a backup/5th pitcher needs to be, although I'm sure you can get someone good for Kirk. If you can, and Ryu is healthy by the trade deadline, trade Ryu. Although if Stripling is still doing well by the trade deadline, I'm sure some team gunning for the playoffs will give up something nice for a long relief pitcher who has a solid starting record, but that assumes we get someone who can replace him.

To me, it sounds like Ryu might have TJ surgery in the future.
Doesn't even have to be TJ surgery. He's had other major surgeries. The arm could quite simply be breaking down.

Do they take a shot at Keuchel and try to swing some Pete Walker lefty magic?

I wouldn't. He's looked absolutely cooked for a couple years now. His K rates have been falling off steadily since like 2016 and it seems that last year was the tipping point where that lack of Ks also came with a lack of soft contact and everything came undone for him.

Fair, is there anything in his pitch usage that would suggest there has been a change the last two years? seems like his chaneup and 4 seam usage have been going in opposite directions, Maybe falling too in love with the change? not enough movement on it?

Espinal
Bichette
Vladdy
Hernandez
Kirk
Biggio
Chapman
Tapia
Zimmer

That is a gross lineup. Why sit both Gurriel and Jansen when Springer is out.

If I had taken into account that Springer wouldn't be playing again I pretty much nailed it minus basically everyone's positions. Tapia had to be in there, they rested Gurriel for Zimmer. Vladdy, not Teo is DHing which did get Biggio in there again.

But man does that lineup look gross. Not as bad as some of the stuff we trotted out there when Teo and Jansen were both injured though.
