I don't watch Connected much anymore except for a bit after Jays games, but Ken Reid is becoming insufferable, throwing shade on things that aren't like they were 30+ years ago (like analytics)

Like "hurr durr, it's great that he threw 120+ pitches. Suck it analytics!".

I'm not against letting the guy stay out to get the no-hitter, but in no universe is making a guy throw 120+ pitches on fumes a great idea. You don't just pitch guys until their arms fall off. That's stupid.

Only 129 pitches for Mikolas?!? Pfft. Back in the good ol spreadsheet-less, all heart and eye test days, Edwin Jackson threw a 149-pitch no hitter!! Take that, analytics! :sarcasm:

Kikuchi showed a flash of what they saw in him and was pretty great for a stretch

Siddel was accurate in his post-game comments. He's afraid of contact so he starts to nibble and throw more off-speed stuff. He walked crappy hitter today because he was pitching scared. He was doing well when he was pumping fastballs in the zone.

Also, I think I am done with Richards. No confidence in him.

So I watched Vladdy's eye movement on his pitches more closely in this game. It's not an eye plane problem. He keeps his eye on the ball.

At this point the only thing I can thing of is he has ditched all pretense of discipline and is just free swinging it out there. Makes enough sense. He's young, he came off a big season, he thinks he's invincible, so he's just hacking away and truly believes he's so awesome if he just connects on any pitch he'll knock it out of the park.

Bichette was doing the same thing until recently, except he actually has the ability to foul off pitches in the dirt, so his case was actually worse when every now and again he would score a hit...and then go on to strike out the rest of the game. Surprised his father didn't chew him out on that much sooner.

I still have some hope for Kikuchi. The flashes show he has the pitches/talent to put together a good season as a bottom of the rotation guy. Patience hasn't run out just yet.

How about Gabe's arm :o

Vladdy is really tough to figure out from a hitting perspective because of the athleticism he uses, so bravo for trying. It's like an athletic goalie - a lot harder to diagnose issues.

Valid point though, if he's not having a pitch in mind and relying on his rare ability to hit ANY pitch that's thrown to him, then it makes it tough for him to produce

People like to overanalyze Vladdy too much. He is fine. He has the same numbers as Vlad senior at the same time in their careers and Junior is 2 years younger than his dad was when he started. He is fine.

Kirk isn't real, he's just a computer program right? You input pitch and he outputs either homerun, double, single or walk at random

Adley needs to ask Kirk how to look for something he loses

Zimmerman almost just turned into a shitty outfielder after he almost got the man knocked out of him by that Vladdy hit.
