Answer to the latter question is when it first touches any part of the fielder. Had to toss a coach in OBA's once for that one...

That makes sense. Remove that potential loophole. In that situation I would still try it though. How many players actually know that rule? There's a chance you could confuse the runner into doing something stupid and the run not scoring in a spot where if you try nothing the game is over and you lose.

Last year we had an ump call our runner out because he left before the fielder had "full possession" of the ball. We were trying to explain the rule to him but he wouldn't listen. Fortunately the second ump talked to him and they overturned it and got it right.

did he just make that throw from the overhand slot or whatever its called. like strip/buhrle/ our prospect from the chapman trade. i swear he went right over the top with the throw to second
