WELL

should we trade kikuchi back to the mariners for ray and they can eat half the salary lol

dude is damn near ray 2 seasons ago. no control never know which pitcher you will get.

hopefully he can figure it out

It shouldn't really be a question of 7 vs. 8 days of rest, though, since yesterday's game didn't matter.

The question is whether, if you need him in a tight game today, you would want him on 8 days rest or pitching on back-to-back games. For the record, his numbers pitching on back-to-back days are insane.

Why not? Yesterday's game could impact todays as he threw 16 pitches last night.

His 6+ days rest in 2022 is pretty damn good too. But both are small sample sizes for any conclusions to be drawn.

Because we're talking about what would be a better situation for Romano coming into today's game. Seven days rest wasn't an option... it was 8 days rest vs. back-to-back.

Kikuchi is incredibly frustrating.

The stuff is clearly there and he has stretches where he looks terrific but he seemingly has no confidence or consistency and just loses his ability to throw strikes. Basically like pre-Toronto Robbie Ray.

Especially against a team like KC that can't hit... the strategy for someone like Kikuchi should be "Throw it down the middle and see what happens".

Not sure why Thornton was pulled after only 22 pitches. On a day where the bullpen is going to have to throw 8+ innings, he could pretty clearly have thrown another inning.

This is a Montoyo complaint I can get behind. Really dumb... low pitch count, and his only purpose on the team is to mop up innings when they're desperate. And you cap him at 22 pitches? Let him mop it up!

It's weird that for relievers they seem to set 'inning counts' instead of pitch counts.

If a 'one-inning guy' comes in and throws an 8 pitch inning, he's done. But if he struggles a bit, they'll let him muddle through 25 or 30 pitches to get through that inning.

If Thornton took 40 pitches to get through 2 innings, they would left him in there to get through those two innings. But 40 pitches for 3 innings somehow isn't ok.

... and for some reason Trevor Richards is throwing a 2nd inning after throwing 22 pitches and giving up a couple runs in his first inning.

So backward.

It's kind of flown under the radar how ineffective Richards has been this season.

Is this a guy you want pitching in a playoff game?
