Jays should find a contingency closer for Romano though. Jordan's been hella overworked so far with all those saves, dude deserves a week in the Maldives lol

For the record, prior to closing out yesterday's game, Romano just had three straight days off.

He's been used a lot so far, but nothing out of the ordinary (I'm guessing guys throw 8 innings in a two week stretch all the time) and he's been kept to one inning at a time.

I read an interesting article about Romero saying that his velocity was slightly down and that batters exit velocity was quite high. Basically saying that the balls were being hit hard, but right at people.

Has anyone noticed this trend this year?

And none of them have been overly stressful innings until the previous two outings.

Before tonight 15 guys (including Romano) had 7 or more games and 70 had 6 or more. He's definitely pitching a lot, but its not like he's coming close to lapping the field, and it just so happens the save situations have come on days he's been available. He'll definitely get the day off tomorrow, and will potentially be available come Sunday, and if not he'll be ready for Boston.

Yeah, today he was finally pitching in the 97-99 range. Most of the games he's played he's had multiple run leads and no issues, but the stuff hasn't looked overly Romano-like until tonight. Could just be he's not pushing his arm until it's needed, and a 1 run lead and two lucky hits was the perfect time for 3 strikeouts.

Just catching up to the end of the game. We somehow win a Stripling v Verlander game. Unbelievable really.

You had to use Romano tonight. He definitely gets tomorrow off but 1 game after 3 days off isn't something that should prevent you from using him again. I think it feels like he's pitched a lot more than he actually has because literally every appearance has been a save opportunity and a lot of tense spots. Cimber has pitched 7 innings, Mayza's had 7 outings. Merryweather, Garcia, Richards have all had 6 outings. It would be nice start winning games by 5 and 6 runs so we don't have to rely on him for every single win we get, but I don't think 8 apperances in 14 games is outrageous in a smaller sample. If 42 games in he's been on the mound 24 times then yeah that's an issue.

I was kind of surprised we didn't see Springer hit for either Zimmer or Tapia in the 8th inning, or Collins in the 9th. They said he's available to pinch hit. The Collins spot he would have been DH so wouldn't have had to field. I get wanting to rest him especially if he's hurt. But if he's not going to enter then game there then don't tell us before the game that he's available to pinch hit because he's not.

If we want to go from 90 to 100 wins, we are going to have much more save opportunities. Hope we can get another power arm at the back end of the pen to help Romano on nights he is tired as I see Cimber, Garcia, Mayza etc better for the 7th and 8th. Maybe Garcia can close some games when Romano is tired but who would say no to another back of the pen arm.
We've got a couple of power arms already. Pearson (when he's back) and Merryweather. Before he crapped out last year, the guy was lights out in the 1st couple weeks of the season. Not sure if that was a mirage or not.

Watching that Bichette throw with the Vladdy pick again Bo needs to improve his awareness too.

Chapman was right there and its a much easier play for him. Maybe the two of them just need to communicate better but imo Chapman should make that play

Merryweather and Pearson wouldn't be used as a closer on a Romano off day right now though. If anything it would be Garcia and I'm fine with that. I'm just saying another arm for the 9th wouldn't hurt.

Ryu has become like Dickey. Either 6 scoreless or shelled in 2 innings. Much better chance with Stripling who will give the Jays 5 innings with around 2-3 runs.
Thankfully their using Stripling correctly. He had a 4.26 era his first two times through the order in 2021 and they seem intended on only allowing him to pitch through the order twice this year. He averaged just over 4 innings a game and 2.25 runs against per game in 2021. He gives us a chance.

It’s even better than that.

We won a Stripling + Thornton v Verlander game.

But for some reason Verlander struggles against us.

Bottom line is we have one of the best players to ever wield a bat, managing and hoping and wishing the team to victory every day. Vladdy.

This kid is far more than just a player.

Who do you think came up with the home run jacket? And keeps it going?

U couldn't ask for a better teammate than this guy. Hope he and Marner bounce off ideas.

The R.A stood for ‘really awesome’ when he would have a great pitching day. If it was bad, the R.A would stand for ‘ratchet ass’ due to his bad terrible day….ex. Game 4 against Kansas City in 2015…bro didn’t make it out of the second inning

I'm not a guy that's typically for old school baseball shit, but I f***ing hate giving non-elite hitters the green light 3-0.
