good win, this stretch of teams is insane. but only 1 game behind the yankees as of now with an INFINITELY more difficult schedule. doing it all without a good portion of our starting 9.
Ya. I was thinking about this earlier. Who the hell made the schedule?? When do we play lesser opponents? KC Cleveland etc

pretty nasty schedule so far.

bo leading the league in errors since the beginning of last year, gotta be a bit concerning :(
the funny thing is i bet 90% of those are throwing errors and trying to kill vladdy lol

we play cleveland after the yankees series which is good, unfortunately after that its the yankees again, then the rays, then the mariners lol

jordan romano sir lol, cmon hes canadian man..cant mess it up!!
I definitely think he's excellent, but there was a stretch where there was some very, very hard contact against him, so I'm really glad to see him really settling in there.

its legit the hardest stretch of teams i can remember ever lol. thank god we caught the redsox when their offense were playing like junk lol .
to be 14-8 so far is such a great sign, and our offense has been pretty mediocre so far too, barrios(outside of 1st game)-manoah-gausman have been UNBELIEVABLE!!
Totally agree! Yeah 1/2/3 have been very good!

At least Tapia is showing signs of life with his bat. Hitting the ball harder, more LDs, actually took a couple of walks lol. xwOBA of .340 (coming into today) suggests better days could be ahead. We'll see.

Zimmer is great defensively but his at bats definitely need to be limited.

Berrios actually hasn't had his best stuff to date. There have been some very loud outs and balls hit to fielders, so he has been pretty fortunate to escape jams. Nothing great under the hood, so I'm hoping he can get back to his old self soon

Merryweather's underlying numbers are fairly good.
Yeah his offspeed pitches have been virtually unhittable so far this season, the fastball on the other hand.... woof:

xBA / xwOBA / whiff% :
Fastball - .530 / .638 / 23.3%
Slider - .086 / .074 / 50%
Changeup - .089 / .087 / 18.2%

It's funny because his fastball is decently unhittable too, but when guys hit it, they're getting it right in the sweet spot and they're mashing.

It seems vaguely familiar that might've been an issue for him even when he was acquired and why he was something of an also-ran prospect in spite of the raw stuff. That his fastball was blistering but exceedingly straight/flat and when a guy could catch up to it he would tee off.

It's crazy too because 97mph with the threat of 2 plus [plus?] offspeed pitches *should* result in his fastball playing up. Instead it's the reason he's getting blown up.

Really seems he's either gotta get some more movement on it or needs to stop throwing it as much. Seems insane he's throwing it almost 50% of the time.

FWAR gives credit to pitchers who don't get in trouble a lot (if every hit is a hr, the runs against opportunity is low.

Bwar is based on actual outcome.

For a Berrios who has proven he is great at pitching out of jams, bwar is usually better. For guys like Gausman, who excel at not getting in them in the first place, fwar is better. At the end of the year, both should converge.
