Based on the way Bourgault was talking at Oilers development camp (in which he wasn't actually skating due to rehabbing an injury and beginning his summer training), he was asked a few times about WJC and was eluding to also needing to make sure he's ready for his shot to make the NHL next year.

If I had to bet, he's opting out as well. He played a lot of hockey this year and is nursing some sort of ailment it seems.

Who is your avatar, please?

This tourney will be interesting to say the least. On the down side a lot of top prospects are opting out, which hurts. But this also guarantees more opportunities for lesser known prospects from large hockey nations. No team Russia also means a good chance to medal for a smaller country. Will we see the Slovaks continue their renaissance? Do the Finns load up with ‘02 birthdays and play their disciplined and tough systems? Does Bedard put the team on his shoulders as a draft eligible?

FYI since you guys didn't really discuss him, but rumour is that McTavish is probably pulling out.

He already opted out of our development camp citing all of the hockey he's played this season what with bouncing between like 7 teams this year, so I wouldn't be surprised if he opts out of the WJC as well.

I think some people just need to accept that once the tourney was cancelled last Winter -- that was going to be it for seeing certain players play, as shitty as it was/is.

For example, as a Jets fan, I knew that Perfetti, based on his trajectory and role in the NHL, would not be playing in another WJC tourney again -- did not really matter when they rescheduled it. For some guys, it was just not going to make sense with their pro career, and I can respect that.

Regardless, it's an opportunity for other guys to step up and embrace the stage here.

Look forward to seeing who rises to the occasion and takes this opportunity to steal the show. Next man up.

Yeah it's just going to be a different thing. Will still be enjoyable for those there and people will enjoy watching on tv. Good reps for the 2023 tournament too.

With all the new information coming out including Hockey Canada having a secret fund to pay off victims, i would not be surprised if they get banned from IIHF competition for a period of time.

Heads will definitely role with Hockey Canada, its just a wait and see if the IIHF will also act.

I'm no fan of Hockey Canada, but I do believe everyone deserves a fair hearing. Having said that, I don't think it's sounding good for a number of officials within that organization. If wrong doing is proven then I think those officials need to resign or be removed immediately and should face legal action should that be called for. The IIHF would be within their rights to suspend Hockey Canada related activity from the international scene for the appropriate period of time. The same would hold true for any players depending on their legal or moral situation.

There is a thread for this. Can we keep it out of this thread, please?

Hockey Canada reported the incident to the Police and involved a third party investigation. You may not like the outcome but they did at least the minimum.

I'll bet you a 1 month choice of Avatar that IIHF does not suspend Canada.

Unless there's more stuff to come out it seems very unlikely that Hockey Canada would be punished by the IIHF for settling with an accuser after participating with a police investigation and an additional investigation.

Iihf needs money from Canada. Will not suspend. It’s not Like they invaded another country.
