It implied that he had said something about Stetcher’s dad who passed away a few years ago due to complications from diabetes.

What a load of a deal that was/is/will be.
Horvat deal looks expensive for a rental and pretty cheap if he signs long term.
It struck me as unusual until I realized it's not exceptional - McAvoy has no trade protection for the first two seasons of his current deal, and Fox has none for the first three of his before it kicks in. Same goes for Kaprizov. Hintz is in the same boat as Mr Unmentionable with one clause-free year. Makar has no protection at all, probably because he knows he doesn't need any. So while it's something to note, I wouldn't read too much into it.
NTC and NMC aren’t automatic. There is a criteria of time before one can be kicked in:
What is a No-Move Clause (NMC)?
A No-Move Clause (NMC) can be added to a player's contract in the years after they are eligible for Group 3 Unrestricted Free Agency (7 Accrued seasons or 27 years of age), and has the following properties:- Player cannot be traded without his consent (however, the clause can specify a modified no-trade clause that limits the NTC to a certain number of teams)
- Player cannot be placed on waivers without his consent
- Player cannot be assigned to the minors without his consent
- Player is not exempt from a buyout or contract termination
- Once the clause has gone into effect, it can travel with the player even if he consents to being traded or is claimed on waivers
- This requires that the acquiring team sign an addendum to the contract ensuring that the clause does in fact travel with the player (written by the player's agent)

However, as of July 2020, and under the new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), all No-Move and No-Trade clauses included in the players active contract shall continue to remain active and travel with the player even in the event that the SPC is moved (either by trade, waivers claim, or loan to another league) regardless of whether or not the clause has taken effect.

It's a real possibility the Islanders trade Horvat should they fail to sign him, make the playoffs, or was all part of a master plan to garnish draft picks/players.

I remember Seguin as well.
If they fall out of it they could deal him for a 1 and prospect at very least on deadline day. Plus they could retian 50% i believe. Would look nice on Boston for a late one and Poitras.

I'm not seeing how it gets them much more than they gave up- would it be a bigger market for him at the deadline because of more salary retained?
I mean they already gave up a good chunk of picks/players to get him in the door for a few weeks

I don't know but there's always the possibility they do get better players/prospects. The bigger issue is Horvat doesn't want to be in NYC and Islanders left hanging with massive gap. Lou (any sane person) is not obtuse ... he will make another move "flip" Horvat if need be.

I really like that Horvat deal. Both parties did well. NYI assumes a little risk in being able to sign him, but if they can get the deal done it makes the juice worth the squeeze for sure

Thanks Wally. I figured there'd be something like this lurking in the background. So McAvoy, Fox, Hintz etc. can't have NMC/NTCs on their contracts just yet because they're all too young/inexperienced, and their clauses kick in once they're of age or played 7 seasons.
yep…so it can be in the new contracts but not specific year eligible. I remember it being a thing with the Makar contract. For example Charlies kicks in for 24- 25 year.
Makar will be eligible next contract.
