shush! we clearly see them live and in person and know better than everyone who gets paid real money for their jobs. :sarcasm:

Man, it’s not like Minten is some hidden gem playing in Kazakhstan. Everyone had an opportunity to watch him in the WHL and most places had him ranked in the 3rd/4th round.

Is it possible the Leafs saw something in him that literally no one else did? Sure. Is that likely? Doubtful. Rarely do those kinds of picks seem to work out from my years watching the draft, but who knows?

NHL GM's and scouts make terrible decisions all the time, just because you get paid for something, doesn't mean you don't make mistakes, it also doesn't mean you're actually good at your job.
Everyone makes mistakes...if you are working either in retail, corporate job or w/e. However, Google doesn't educate nor teach us a lot of the factors a person who is extensively in the field. I used to be with a lot of players/scouts/ex etc...and everyone always has something new to learn and teach even those who have been there for decades lol.

"A July birthday, Minten is one of the youngest players in the draft but is also one of the most physical. He plays a powerful game, dishing out big hits and making plays off the boards into middle ice where he can use his heavy shot. He isn’t the most fleet of foot but he has a well-rounded skillset and even if he never becomes a real offensive threat as a pro, the rest of his game should help him carve out a career as a solid complementary piece."

I expect the usual suspects to be praising this pick not saying it is bad.

I have no idea about him nor have I watched him. I have heard about it just now lol. Again I am not going to lose sleep or time for it, we really will know a couple of years later. I just find it amusing sometimes we are either so hyped or demoralized from it

For Pete's sake...

Of course none of us are pro scouts.

Quit it with the "Oh, so you know better than the paid professionals?" crap.
Consensus and aggregate rankings exist for a reason. To let those who aren't fully informed have a sense of what to expect.
Let people feel happy, shocked, sad, confused, when players they did or didn't want do or don't get drafted.

And flipside, not the place for doom and gloom.
We have
no idea how these players will pan out.

It's not the end of the world.

I mean it's fine, just likely he'd be available at 79

Yeah stay out of the draft discussion thread if people discussing the pick offends you.

Hey man the peanut gallery has spoken. He's a bust already. Onto next year's draft!

Likely, I've seen him as high as 47 I think, it's a gamble.

Don't follow prospects that aren't in our system enough, so no opinion. Just can't seem to please the "we need size and physicality, we always draft small players" crown.

If he pans out as a physical, very good defensive #3C, that's a definite need. Only time will tell how he develops.
