I will judge this trade based on who they draft tomorrow at 38.

if leafs end drafting the player they would've at 25, then its not bad trade.

but again for me it depends which players are available at the draft.

5 dollars says the Leafs take the same player at 38 that they would have taken at 25 essentially getting rid of Mrazek for free.

Of course we'll never know. If Dubas did say that it could just be lip service. But it sounds like they know their BPA isn't going anytime soon. Better to do that than go way off the board I guess.
This is 100% correct

Part of that is a sound bite.

We dropped ~10 spots to dump Mraz. Youre looking at a 3rd rounder in value, maybe low 2nd, to offload a bad signing.
Only the most miserable person would say it’s not a good move considering the situation (petr’s awful season, flat cap, limited options out there)

Who we end up with in net as well

Try to find the positives in the fine print. If Dubas had simply not called Mrazek or Ritchie 365 days ago we would have 2 extra draft picks. Oh well, he’s betting his job on it.
I don't know, we'd probably have pages of complaints about not signing a goalie or any depth. Yeah these two failed, but it's not like nothing came back.

I don’t think we need to go back to relitigating Marleau…

But our team can’t use draft picks to fix its own mistakes every year like this.

Why? Draft picks are being traded like candy. It's not something that will do anything for the Leafs for 3-5 years. Acquiring draft picks isn't really hard or something that changes the franchise in the short-term.

When things matter, the Leafs will have their picks and supplement appropriately.

Dropping spots to dump Mrazek may not seem to bad but once again we have to give up something because of a previous crappy move.
Well when you make trades and other moves sometimes they don't work out. I'd rather our GM swing for the fences and strikeout a few times than to hit singles all the time.
