"Dubas will never trade one of the core guys, he is too stuck in his ways!"

"I hate that Dubas is fixing a mistake he made!"

He made a bad signing, he fixed it and people are flipping out over 13 spots.

I'd rather a GM that owns their own mistake than virtually every other GM in the league.
that certain portion of the fanbase is so predictable its not even funny

Context is the Leafs are in an asset burning mode to cover for their constant “bets”. This isn’t the way to build a sustainable program.

If a mistake only takes a trade down to fix, it will not be an issue at all as long as the core is what it is. They also found a lot of good assets in that time frame. Sometimes you have to keep churning them.

The mistakes like signing Marleau is a lot worse. Long-term disastreous contracts is worse. These are minor set backs in what is largely minor set backs fixed in the fashion they did.

Is it great? No. It's not ideal. But it's not franchise defining bad or as terrible as you make it out to be.

So negative.

Kyle won that trade so hard. Who needs draft picks?

Just pick the guy you want. Chicago messing up the pick makes it a bit better. But Kyle has wasted picks to move bad contracts. If we get Goyette I’ll change my mind but I’m not convinced we are going to get that top 15 guy they think we are.

from the sounds of it Leafs are likely gonna get a prospect they had ranked top 15 at 38 anyways so weather that player is picked at 25 or 38 is negligible.
Part of that is a sound bite.

We dropped ~10 spots to dump Mraz. Youre looking at a 3rd rounder in value, maybe low 2nd, to offload a bad signing.

Imagine he forced keeping him because his pride got in the way

5 dollars says the Leafs take the same player at 38 that they would have taken at 25 essentially getting rid of Mrazek for free.

Of course we'll never know. If Dubas did say that it could just be lip service. But it sounds like they know their BPA isn't going anytime soon. Better to do that than go way off the board I guess.

He traded a low 1st rounder for a high second rounder...
Pretty low cost to correct a mistake.

Would everyone prefer he spent significant assets or Mrazek remained on this roster for next year, blocking us from improving the team?
I kept hearing it would cost that 25th pick in itself, considering they have a dearth of 2nds later coming up.
It’s sucks cause it looks like we’re not picking tonight, but it’s good biz to clear that mess up going into FA

There is some precedent for those raw guys out of HS hockey.

Not top 25 precedent though. Top 50 precedent.
But the guys who get picked top-50 have insane production... Rinzel's frankly f***ing sucks.

For an all-offense defenseman, he has done legit nothing to show he's worth even a 2nd round pick.

I don’t think we need to go back to relitigating Marleau…

But our team can’t use draft picks to fix its own mistakes every year like this.

Leafs value some very different things, that's quite evident.

I wouldn't be shocked to see a guy available at 150 they had ranked in their top 15.
