I trust Wright's play away from the puck more than Slafkovsky. He's less physical, but seems much smarter defensively. Slaf's production and skating/decision making should have disqualified him from going first overall

I've watched games, tracked stats, used models. and been on this since August. But sure, let's say that.

I would have taken Slaf over Wright. It's not clear cut. Wright didn't play hard at all this year and floated through games. Both had serious question marks. Wright had a lot of exceptional status hype attached and his U-18 where he scored on 50% of his shots.

Most of Slafkovsky's hype came from 2 small sample size tournaments with an extremely high shooting percentage. Wright is the better player imo even before considering his strong 2 way game.
