This is why I'm super high on Danielson as well, takes intelligent routes all over the ice. Even in the offensive zone, where both him and Kasper also have the high end ability to generate carried zone entries. That's extremely important for a center to do if they are going to begin to produce offense in the NHL

It's what makes sometimes overlooked C's like Larkin, Eichel, Hintz so dangerous because they can back off D and distribute the puck (and also shoot). Need Marco and Nate to continue shooting and learning how to get off difficult shots so that they're super dual-threats. Wyatt Johnston is unreal at this

Kasper has been used to pro hockey for 3+ years now so naturally Danielson needs extra adjustment time but he's got 8 points in his last 11 and showing signs of producing exactly what he showcased in junior. Raw, but projectable offense will come cause very few show that so early on in their NHL careers

Marco is a real keeper for us and he might have a higher ceiling than any of us originally thought

Helm was a negative player offensively he had zero offensive IQ. Kasper is already better than him because he actually creates offensive chances outside of breakaways.

Kaspers defensive game is also top tier. Helm's game was 100% based on his speed and tenacity along the boards. Kaspers IQ is also higher on the defensive end. He always takes the right routes. He is never caught down ice despite often taking the puck below the line.

If he can work on his faceoff game he should at worst be a Draper level selke contender. I think his defensive game is that special. Now if he can become a 25/25 or 20/30 guy on top of it, we are in for a very special player indeed.

That said, I already see a lot more from Kasper than Helm ever showed with the puck, while having similar tenacity without the puck. I don't know what Marco's ceiling is, but I'm glad Detroit drafted him and I look forward to him continuing to develop.

That's pretty much what I expect. A modern Ryan Kesler type. The NHL offense isn't there yet but we're seeing the potential.

Don't say ever, because then I have to post that PK where he got a standing ovation. I really think the back injury impacted the way he played, he never threw big checks or tried to hold the puck after that. I think he was scared to get hit, especially since he was noticeably slower after the injury.

Kasper has better vision and higher hockey IQ though, and better puck reaction but he's gotta convert all of that to points.

Kasper and Helm are quite different. There weren't many players in the league like Helm when he was at his best and not many now either. Brandon Tanev has a lot of Helm type moments. Really impressed with Kasper's IQ and direct play, goes to right places and engages physically with no hesitation. He's been all business, not much sign yet of his in-your-face pest nature which will eventually show up when he gets more comfortable. We might be three years away from seeing what he's really capable of offensively but he creates enough already to be optimistic. Easy to see him helping make life easier for a skilled winger, he and MBN could be dynamite together.

He needs to have a summer where he eats and hits the gym. I remember when raymond beefed up his game got better. Jasper needs a couple pounds of muscle, he still has his baby fat.

I think people forget how good Helm was before he got hurt the first couple times. Even after he was always one of the hardest working Wings players. That said, we should still hope for Kasper to be better than prime Helm.

Prime Helm was an absolute joy to watch. His playoff impact in his 1st season cannot be understated, but his game was entirely built on skating and tenacity. He went full tilt to the puck, boards, player every time. Before he got injured he simply outskated 95% of the NHL. There wasn't a ton about his play that was cerebral though. Its one of the reasons I felt he never became one of the best pkers in the league ala Draper. Yes I know the 5 on 3 was amazing, and I'm not saying he was bad but if we needed a stop it was Z out there. Helm was the guy you put out there when you needed an energy shift less when you needed someone shut down.

I think Kasper has aspects of Helm's tenacious play but he is a more cerebral player even defensively. I think he has the ability to be in that Draper, Lehtinen, Bergeron, Peca mold in terms of defensive shut down impact on a game.

Yeah I guess many of u would be disappointed if a former 8OA pick would become another Helm. To be honest I think another Helm in his prime would be exactly what this team needs. But I really think Kasper has already shown in his career, that he has got better hockey IQ and skills than Helm. All he needs is more NHL games and experience and the fans gotta be patient.

Hell, I'd probably even draft a Darren McCarthy kinda guy in the first round - would be fun to watch in todays NHL, the main board would most likely explode. There are so many first round picks out there who doesn't even make the league - if one of your first round picks becomes a serviceable botton 6 guy there is no reason to be disappointed imo.
