And it would of been at a higher cap hit also then karlsson for the past 4 years.Toronto hasn't won shit since signing Tavares. You seriously think the Sharks would've fared any better with him?

Yes, and it's not remotely close. Put Tavares on the 2019 Sharks instead of Karlsson.Toronto hasn't won shit since signing Tavares. You seriously think the Sharks would've fared any better with him?
The sharks could barely fit Karlsson in at 6.5 that season, let alone adding another 6.5 million ontop of that. Future seasons it might have worked, but not that first season.Yes, and it's not remotely close. Put Tavares on the 2019 Sharks instead of Karlsson.
Hertl-Tavares-Pavelski
Kane-Couture-Donskoi (no room for Nyquist)
Meier-Thornton-Labanc
Sorensen-Goodrow-Haley
Vlasic-Burns
Dillon-Braun
Ryan-Demelo
That roster almost assuredly wins in 2019. Everyone always gave Demelo undeserved grief for years, but he is ultra consistent and would have been a fine 2/3 pairing guy for that team and probably helped the goaltending immensely by PDB not deciding to try and be the fun and gun Vegas teams of that era once Karlsson came on board.
Now for the last 3-4 years, slot Josh Norris into the forward group too as the 3C when Thornton fell off the cliff finally. Probably still a playoff team right now under that iteration of a Sharks roster.
didn't the Sharks outbid Toronto by like $2M/year and he was still like "I woudn't play for the Sharks if IT WAS THE LAST TEAM ON EARTH"... so yes, I h8 tavaresTavares was nearly a Shark
it definitely feels like all the GMMG moves so far have been freestyles/mixtapesI agree that over the course of the year, Grier has given me a lot of confidence in his plan. I think as a GM, he still needs to keep growing and evolving with his trades. I don’t necessarily think he lost a ton (other than the Burns trade) but I also think after years of DW fleecing people, you want to see him win a trade once or twice, but there’s time.
I think this summer is a big one for him, I actually think he plans to do more than we think (he’s mentioned a couple times how he sees it as a big summer) and I’m curious to see what steps he takes, what FA looks like, who he drafts, etc.
But right now, I’m really happy with him and feel optimistic about the future of the team. It makes knowing that we’re going to suck for at least 2-3 more years more palatable.

the draft is the lead single
free agency is when the debut album drops
I don't think there's a way to make that work. Taking Campbell's contract alone is worth somewhere between two and three 1st round picks to dump. Edmonton would also want to get us to retain on Karlsson to a more manageable figure for them which is at least 9.5 mil. They've been giving away a lot of their future to take their shots now. I think for them, it's one or the other. This might be a crazy thought because his contract runs until 2027, but if the Oilers offered Campbell as a way of "balancing the books" on a Karlsson trade since they're in a bit of a cap conundrum, what kind of return would it take to make such a deal worth the Sharks' while? Anything?
This was when Joe Thornton was at the point of taking whatever salary cap was leftover as his contract. He'd have been playing for league minimum in 2018-19 if it meant Tavares was signing with SJ as opposed to the $5M he got after everyone else's deals had all come to settle out.The sharks could barely fit Karlsson in at 6.5 that season, let alone adding another 6.5 million ontop of that. So would still need to find another 2 million to knock out if that would be the case. This was when Joe Thornton was at the point of taking whatever salary cap was leftover as his contract. No Nyquist gets you most of the way there ($1.1M without his proration plus what was already leftover). You'd also have a lot less of the cap hits of guys like Radil, Haley, Suomela, Gambrell, and Chartier (totaled over $1.6M against the cap that year) by not rolling a full 23 every night if need be. It was clearly doable under the cap because Wilson was willing to make the deal for Tavares. So would still need to find another 2 million to knock out if that would be the case.
Actually Labanc is listed at #15.![]()

Connor Hellebuyck, Mark Scheifele, William Nylander and Erik Karlsson are among the buzziest names who could be moved this summer.theathletic.com

EK65 is the only Shark listed at #4. But have to think one or more UFAs might be signed this offseason.
Forget Karlsson, I'd offer to take Campbell's contract straight up (assuming SJ isn't one of the 10 teams on his no trade list) for a 1st and a 2nd. We need to start getting paid to fill out some of our roster spots. This might be a crazy thought because his contract runs until 2027, but if the Oilers offered Campbell as a way of "balancing the books" on a Karlsson trade since they're in a bit of a cap conundrum, what kind of return would it take to make such a deal worth the Sharks' while? I'm fully onboard with getting paid to take a goalie from another team to fill out Reimer's spot. I think between Campbell and Murray, there should be a deal out there to be made.Forget Karlsson, I'd offer to take Campbell's contract straight up (assuming SJ isn't one of the 10 teams on his no trade list) for a 1st and a 2nd. Agreed, I was actually thinking Murray might be a good trade target to recoup some assets.I'm fully onboard with getting paid to take a goalie from another team to fill out Reimer's spot. I think between Campbell and Murray, there should be a deal out there to be made.
Yeah, Murray is ideal but someone like Petersen will also be an option. Even if it's just the Mrazek deal where we're trading up as part of it, it makes more sense than looking at free agency.Agreed, I was actually thinking Murray might be a good trade target to recoup some assets.
Yep my ideal is something like Murray+1st for Barabanov. He’s only got a year left. We can give Peterson all the minutes Barabanov had. Pick up another first in a deep draft.Yeah, Murray is ideal but someone like Petersen will also be an option. I don’t recall JT saying anything of the sort.
I can't imagine EK65 being a target for Seattle; he doesn't really fit their play style, and all of their success this year has come from playing within a tightly structured system that wouldn't let Karl be Karl. I imagine Francis would look at Burakovsky coming back as the first big "addition" to next year, and if he goes big-game hunting it will be for a physical forward who can fill the net. Timo would've been a great add for them.Ok, so watching Seattle come up short, I wonder if they go big game hunting this summer a la Vegas in the years after their first run. Francis doesn't seem like the kind of guy but I think the pressure will be there after Seattle fans have gotten a taste of winning and seeing what Vegas is doing and I wonder...
If so, EK65 would be a great trade target for them. What would you realistically ask for?
I'd ask for Wright and when they say no, just let them sweat. I'd rather keep him than move EK65 for a marginal return, but I've finally come to the point of at least accepting that moving him is prob best for the future of the team, so I'm curious what more reasonable folks would do with EK65.
Edmonton trading their better goalie at a loss is so on-brand.Forget Karlsson, I'd offer to take Campbell's contract straight up (assuming SJ isn't one of the 10 teams on his no trade list) for a 1st and a 2nd. We need to start getting paid to fill out some of our roster spots.
