I know many have issues with Hoven and his articles, so I usually avoid posting links and tweets.

But I thought this bit would be particularly relevant:

With his team on a mild hot streak, coach Todd McLellan isn’t expected to tweak his lineup very much for this one – sans swapping out who is in goal. If that holds, it leads to an interesting scenario that should play itself out over the next 24 hours. By scratching rookie Brandt Clarke for the fifth straight game, he would now be eligible for a two-week conditioning assignment in the AHL — even though, technically, he isn’t eligible to be assigned to the AHL long-term.

I hadn't heard of that rule before, but apparently it's what the Kings did with Schenn.

Still don't think I like that. And it reinforces Herby's reference that the Kings seem more hellbent on putting their top prospects in the AHL.

Or perhaps he doesn’t want to change the lineup as suggested and it also helps showcase players they ‘may’ want to move (Walker). I’m not saying you are wrong BTW, just playing devils advocate.

Did you hear from Herby?

Absolutely true - there are plenty of other reasons to keep scratching Clarke - though it is a headscratcher considering his play has, in my opinion, been better than Durzi and Walker.

Sadly I've not heard from him. I hope he's okay.

The only possible excuse for a loss tonight is if Petersen gets the start. If you want two points for the taking, you have to keep playing Quick. Detroits lineup has 3 stars and the rest are journeymen and tweeners.

Feed Cal to Calgary and Edmonton on the road trip. Don’t throw away a near sure win by worrying about Cal’s confidence. Let him earn his money by showing he can hold out against the teams in Alberta.

I don't wanna just constantly advertise for my own content in here (yes I do)

but the conversation regarding Clarke's ice time, Cal vs Quick in net etc etc etc are frequently discussed in post game, post practice and morning skate conversations with Todd McLellan.

There aren't a ton of journalists that cover these events consistently and even those that do can't write about the full conversations and everything said in the full 10-15 minute sessions that happen basically every day...

BUT

I do make a LOT of quotes pulled from McLellan and players available on the pregame radio show which is then made available as a downloadable podcast the following day on the LA Kings Insider Audio podcast feed.

I bring it up now because I'm reading this thread as I'm editing the morning skate and yesterdays practice audio and there's like 5 minutes of conversation devoted to how a coach handles young players with expectations that suddenly find themselves as a healthy scratch.

Nobody asked "WHY AREN'T YOU PLAYING CLARK???" because the answer is likely to be "we feel this lineup gives us the best chance to win" and nobody is interested in just contradicting the choices the organization makes... that doesn't make for a pleasant working environment moving forward
HOWEVER McLellan talked at length about the sitaution JAD and Clarke find themselves in and how the coaching staff is aware of the difficulties it presents and how they approach it.

I dunno... it's information and it's interesting and there's a lot of it out there that I frequently think might help inform some of the fights I see repeated in here that are conducted without the benefit of the full wealth of knowledge that is available in the world.

OK I'll get off my high horse now...

Who gives a shit what the coach says? It’s no different than any teams coach.

Maybe cut back on the Todd clips, because the guy never says anything worth remembering for more than a month. Try mixing in a preview of the opponent and what their banal coach said before the game. Or even a look around the division and league that night.

How many of the quotes that I've presented have you actually listened to?

McLellan has been surprisingly candid and forthcoming about a lot of topics this season including the teams struggles on the powerplay.

I'll cut my reply short here before I say something regrettable.

Thanks for asking. You can see here how my minutes listened have steadily decreased for your most recent pre game shows. At first I thought it was an entertainment program. Now I’ve come to realize it’s more like the Pravda report.

Well believe it or not I'm genuinely sorry you don't enjoy it.

Why would you regret anything? Think about who you are talking to…

Feeding Cal to the Oilers and/or Flames ? Two teams that are getting near the desperation point ? They will be going all out to beat the Kings, a team above them in the standings that they can catch ( Vegas is out of reach for now ). His confidence could be shattered with a bad outing against those two teams.

Think of it like pizza and sex. No such thing as bad Kings talk, but after 20 years of eating and ***king, a little variety is nice.
Yeah, nah. My niece & nephew only eat pizza from 1 place. It's barely edible hot. Reheated or cold it isn't worth eating. Standing there hungry or eating a slice is a toss up. Often I regret eating the slice half way through.

It's really hard to mess up pizza. Detroit style tried to mess pizza up, but even making an inside out pizza turned out fine.

I might have to go down & study how they F up pizza at this place. Truly baffled. Made a better pie in the air fryer with store purchased Naan & canned pizza sauce.

Not gonna lie. You had me at the first part when you brought up your niece and nephew in an analogy of pizza and sex.

Little Caesar's can't sue you, it's okay to name and shame!

When I started independently covering the Kings back in 2007 I did it because I was frustrated at the lack of local coverage. My goal was always to try and create coverage that Kings fans would find useful and entertaining.

As a member of the organization I have more opportunities and more limitations than I did when I was independent but my personal goal remains the same so I am disappointed in my own efforts when I hear they are failing someone.

I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it (no offense to Doktor Jeep) but as long as criticisms are delivered somewhat constructively or I'm in a mood to ignore being compared to the propaganda efforts of a brutal dictatorship then I'm usually all ears.

In every field there is always room for improvement and growth. I appreciate all you do Jesse. Thanks for all the content honestly. I remember having to wait for Hacksaws ten minutes of hockey to get any kings news.
