Obviously, they're blocking younger players.

The problem is the paucity of NHL ready prospects, though I expect at some point this season we'll see Foerster, Desnoyers, Lycksell, York, Attard, and maybe Wisdom, Wylie and Ratcliffe in the lineup. Gauthier might join the team in April, not sure any other college players will be signed.

Ratcliffe did show improvement last year, players that tall often take longer to develop. No cost in letting him play in LHV and see if he takes a step up.

One way you "find" talent is simply being patient with players and let them play in the AHL for two or three seasons, sometimes they're just AHL+ guys, sometimes the light goes on and you end up with a legitimate NHL player.

You need to actually play guys in the NHL to make them NHL players.

The Flyers should swap their NHL team & AHL team.

They already know the NHLers can play, but it’s more important to see if the AHLers can play.

Therefore, the smart move is to bring all of the non-NHLers up, & send all of the NHLers down. That way they can find out.

Or maybe players should show they're too good for the AHL?
I mean if you're not head and shoulders above your peers in the AHL, what makes you think the player will succeed in the NHL?

JVR doesn't PK, Hayes, Farabee and TK do.

But minute are skewed with Atkinson and Couts out, either they return and things settle down, or they don't, and Torts will have to lean more on Cates, Frost, Allison, et al.

Hard to do on a bad team run by a bad coach.

Your "they need to be dominant in the AHL first" argument has already been completely debunked in the past too, so I don't know why you're still bringing out statements that have been shown to be untrue.

JVR leading all forwards in ES TOI.
good. give him the toi, the right deployment, top pp, literally anything to boost his stats so we can get more at the deadline

San Jose play NJ on Saturday at 1pm, while the Flyers are in Nashville playing at 8pm and will probably get home around 3am. Not much home ice advantage for the game on Sunday night.
also good. lets lose as much as possible lmao

I agree, but a 3rd rounder for JVR, with an 8th OA pick.

That's a commitment to harvesting high end talent if I ever saw one. Quick extend Hart 4 more years. Sigh.

So yeah, that Cates = 2C and Frost = 3C stuff is just being reinforced with this horrendous usage.

Torts the development coach sure does bury his skilled youth a lot. Frost and Laczynski being at the bottom is pure insanity when they're outplayed most forwards on the team.

Not to mention the lack of accountability for MacEwens embarrassing performance.
This is not the least bit surprising. Both Torts and Cuck are riding on this season being moderately better than last year, or basically just mediocre. That is what Cuck aspires to day to day, outside of hockey too I’m sure. But Torts knows this is very likely his last coaching job so he’ll push and squeeze every last bit of his “reliables,” even at the cost of development. Despite his whole spiel about this being a season to figure out what exactly you got in the org.

Throwing a bunch of inexperienced players out there together is not development, just a recipe for chaos that often causes talented prospects to regress.

One reason good teams are "better" at development is most of their prospects are sheltered when they come up and gradually work their way into bigger roles. Bad teams often put too much on young players, who then struggle and lose confidence.

We're already giving TK (25) and Farabee (22) top line responsibility, and Cates (23), Frost (23) and Allison (25) are in the top 8 (and Tippett (23) would be 9th if healthy).
JVR, Hayes and Laughton are the only veterans in the top nine.
The other slots are being used to "audition" players, but most prospects are better off in LHV than playing 8-10 minutes on the 4th line.
Laczynski (25) has started every game. J Cates (25) has played 3 of 4.

On defense, the top four are Provorov (26), TDA (27), Sanheim (26), Risto (28). Braun and Seeler won't be back next year and may be gone by the TDL. Zamula (22) has started every game.

We have two first rd picks in LHV, Foerster (20), York (21), The rest are Attard (3rd), Lycksell (6th), Wisdom (4th), Desnoyers (5th), Wylie (5th), Ratcliffe (2nd), Ginning (2nd). It's not like we have a lot of top 6/top 4 candidates in this group.

So do we think we can trade TDA for a 1st + 2nd this trade deadline? He would be dirt cheap cap wise when you retain and will be pretty productive here.
