If I read capfriendly correctly, best outcome is CGY 2nd overall 2025
No because FLA's pick in 2025 is lottery protected (by the Panthers).

That's why we don't know yet if CGY is getting FLA's 2025 or 2026 pick (also why the damn thing is this complicated)

That’s what I’d do with it for sure… we haven’t seen the Avs go down the path of trading futures to get rid of a guy yet. So a bit hard to say they’d actually do that… and if they’ll even have the futures to do so…

I'd simply look at it like you're spending assets to cap dump him in two years instead of spending those same assets on a rental RHD each of the next two seasons.

First question to Treliving in his presser was "why did it take so long?". He didn't answer directly but it sounded like it was Kadri's side who took that long.

So it's still possible that Kadri got sick of waiting after Lou.

Turning down that initial Flames deal worked out well for Kadri. Probably doesn't win a Cup or get this pay day without taking that detour through Denver first. Now he's set and gets to be back in Canada, which is where I'm guessing he'd like to be. Not perfect since it's not East Coast but not bad either for the money he's making. I'll always root for him unless it's against the Avs or until he concusses Byram or something.

I think Rodrigues should be the way to go for the Avs. He'll probably come cheap unless someone like Lou does something dumb. Roll with him as the 2C until the TDL and then make a move. Avs don't need a legit 2C until the playoffs and will run away with their division regardless. Maybe even the conference/league in the regular season as well.

I like the idea of a cheaply acquired Dvorak. A few years left, put up ok numbers on a bad team, can probably be had for nothing.

Yeah I don't see any comparison in CGY and ours defense. CGY's defense is good and very deep. But we have 1 dude who's in a different stratosphere than all of them and then Bo and Toews who are at comparable to their other guys.

It's actually closer then the... fans on here think.

Just like if we had played Calgary last year, I probably goes 6+ games. This year we are worse(At least of right now) while Calgary is roughly the same level.

I could see it being a good series, but nothing’s changed my mind about Colorado being the superior hockey club.

I’m just having fun when I say ‘run’. Realistically the NHL has a lot of 3-2, or 4-3 games regardless of who’s playing who.

But, hell yeah I’m taking Cale and Nathan’s squad over that team.

Still don't see the major distinction between Rodrigues and Compher.

Rodrigues is an elite skater and a solid playmaker. His underlying numbers are pretty damn good too. I think he he's a better fit if someone needs to fill in as 2C because we already know that's not something Compher can do. Basically, I don't think Compher makes his linemates better but Rodrigues could.

Then if/when they can acquire someone at the TDL, you can move Compher to wing where he's probably better anyways.

Very curious to see what the Avs do now.

There’s still a decent chunk of cap space left. Still think there’s a possibility a defenceman gets moved for a forward. You have to think they had a couple of plans set in place depending on what happened with Kadri.

Very happy for Kadri, he earned that contract. It was just too much and too long for the AVS though.

Clearly, Sakic thought Manson was more crucial and certainly more unique to future AVS success than Kadri.

We´ll see the next moves from the AVS, but it looks critical for them to bring in some low cost projects and/or veterans to compensate for the more expensive core players.

With wingers like Nuke and Lekh, a high hockey IQ guy like Newhook could very well succeed as the future low cost 2C in his sophomore season. And if he doesn’t, AVS will have plenty of cap space for the necessary missing piece at the TDL, just like they did last season.

Their defense will be unique in the league at supporting the offense.

I don’t think Manson deal had anything to do with it, Kadri got 3 more years than Manson (almost double) and 7m. I don’t think the avs were ever going over 6x4.

Yeah the Avs should still be the better team, but us losing Kadri and Calgary gaining Kadri is definitely a significant swing.

Regular season I don't think the Avs will win the West this year. Combination of Cup hangover and a weaker roster.

But playoff time I still think we should absolutely be the team to beat. Especially if we add someone like JT Miller at the trade deadline.

I was going to post a player A vs player B with career stats and ice time. They are almost identical. Rodrigues had a two-month burner last year then went ice cold during the second half. As a 28-year-old. Newhook put up similar points per game to Rodriguez during last season with less ice time (16 minutes versus 13 minutes).

Just don't see how he's the answer to any question when I assume we want to give ice time to Newhook and Meyers to see what we have or maybe see if Mikko can be a long-term answer at C.
