Man. I'm super impressed with what the Flames have done considering they lost their top 2 players in Tkachuk and Gaudreau.

Huberdeau- Lindholm- Toffoli
Pelletier- Kadri- Dube
Coleman- Backlund- Mangiapane
Lucic- Rooney- Lewis

Huberdeau will elevate everyone on that top line. Kadri and Dube are a very good pairing on the 2nd line and if rookie Pelletier proves he can play (27 goals, 62 points in the AHL) that's a very good 2nd line. Then the 3rd line of Coleman, Backlund and Mangiapane should be back together and they were arguably the best two way line in hockey last year and can score a pile of goals. Lewis and Lucic on the 4th line between Rooney gives them grit and toughness.

Then the D is arguably as deep as ours.

Hanifin- Anderson
Weegar - Tanev
Zadorov - Kylington

They allowed the 2nd least goals with Markstrom in net and Sutters system.

They will be a tough out this year.
Defense is deep but nowhere near as talented. I'd take our top 3 guys above anyone on that lineup. Give me Makar, Toews, and Byram before either of Hanifin, Anderson, or Weegar.

No one talks about it but why did it take so long for Kadri to sign the 7X7 contract that he was rumored to sign months ago? It's not like term and AAV are a surprise or anything.

Part of me do wonder if he got tired of waiting after Lou and decided to sign in Calgary.

To be fair it's been less than five weeks (July 13th), it just feels longer.

My guess is Kadri was probably looking for more originally, which probably burned a week or two of time. Then, once he settled for $7x7, he had to wait for teams to clear space.

Working on moving Monahan (which seems to be happening) probably took longer to orchestrate than making the decision to ink Kadri. They've probably been putting feelers out after the Tkachuk trade was made.

It's one of the worst middle 6 C groups in the league.

Let's see how far the best D in the league can compensate.
Once upon a time I believe we had Mackinnon, Stastny, Duchene and O’Reilly and no defense and we saw how that played out. With our defense I think we will be fine.

Good for Naz. Maybe not what he expected going in but that's a damn good contract nonetheless.

Lol at the Isles. Guess Lou didn't have this one done in the drawer.

For those complaining about Manson: you have to take him at his contract over Naz 7x7. That’s a monster contract for 32.

I dont really care about years 5, 6, and 7 of any deals here in Colorado at this point. By that point we are well past our window and very much on the downswing as a team anyway.

I'd very much rather have Kadri as the 2C making $7M for the next 2-3 years, then I would having Manson at $4.5M to be the #4/5D on this team. 2C is so much more important then a depth Dman.

As of right now we literally dont have a 2nd line Center. One of the most important positions in hockey and we're supposed to be the top team in the league.

Compher is a .4 PPG player. Not ideal but not bad as a 3rd line center. I doubt Newhook excels as 3rd line winger. 40- 45 points would be amazing but I don't think he will be a 2C. I think Helm and or Meyers are capable 4th line centers bit man we have a huge hole at 2C with not alot of resources to fill it. Playing along side either 4 of our top 4 wingers will help anyone though.

Lehkonen- Mackinnon- Nichushkin
Landeskog- ? - Rantanen
Newhook- Compher- O'Connor
Cogliano- Meyers - Helm

Get that 2C somehow. Maybe play it out until the deadline....

Still think JTM ends up here. Somehow, some way.

I hope so, he's the best 2C available at this point.

Newhook + Olausson + 1st for Miller(50% retained) + Hoglander

Landy - Mack - Nuke
Lehky - JTM - Mikko
JTC - Meyers - Hoglander
Cogs - Helm - LOC
Sedlak

Toews - Makar
Girard - Manson
Byram - EJ
Hunt - MacDermid

George/Frank

450k leftover to bank for whatever move is needed at the deadline. Besides the unknown of goaltending, that would be a very deep lineup up and down on both Offense and Defense. The only possible area that would maybe need a deadline upgrade would be the 3C spot, depending on what happens with Meyers/JTC.

But 2C can be hidden with the talent of our top 4 wingers. Just be + 50% on faceoffs and solid defensively and let the wingers do the heavy lifting.

Our top 4 D will also mask alot of deficiencies at center.

We’ve lost Bura and Kadri. Are we better than CGY on paper?

Forward, defense, goaltending?

Better forwards and defense I’d argue all day. Goaltending no but I also watched markstrom turn into the worst goalie I’ve seen in a playoff series in a long time.

Mack, Rant, Landeskog, Nuke, Lehkonen

>>>>

Hubey, Kadri, lindholm, mangi, dube

Flames haven’t improved in the West. Improved teams are Edmonton, Nashville, Seattle

I'm not even sure Edmonton improved honestly. The only move they made was going from Smith to Campbell... Just as much of an unknown goalie especially in the playoffs I would argue. Other then that the only guy they brought in was Janmark.

Calgary IMO treaded water. Losing Gaudreau and Tkachuk is pretty massive. They replace Gaudreau with Huberdeau... Tkachuk to Kadri is a downgrade overall and a significant one but at least Naz is a Center, they got stronger down the middle. And the defense gets better with Weegar in place of Gudbranson.

Nashville got better(Though not by a lot IMO), Seattle got a fair bit better adding Bura and Bjorkstrand as well as potentially two big impact rookies in Wright and Beniers... But I dont think its enough to get into the playoffs.

I think you forgot the team in the West that improved the most, the LA Kings. Fiala is a huge grab for them. They also have a lot of really young players that should improve internally as well.

Avs and Flames are pretty much ranked #1 and #2 best defenses in the league. I think we’re slightly ahead personally.

They are deeper upfront and much deeper at center. I think their forward group as a whole is slighly ahead of ours.

In net it’s not close at the moment.

So yeah…
