Lets be real, the fact Naz is signing on August the 18th, over a month since UFA started and that he's signing with Calgary(A team he previous rejected a trade to).... Its clear as day this was the work of Lou Lamoriello.

The Isles and Flames almost certainly had the same 7x7M offer on the table, and Naz wanted to sign with NYI but Lou simply could not move the cap space required to get the deal done. Kadri waited and waited to sign with the Islanders but they couldn't make room for him so he finally went with his option B. That is very clearly what happened here.

I would rather have signed Kadri to that and let Manson go.
Oh, now we have to hear about another Av you want back? :sarcasm:

Yeah, that makes sense

I'm guessing Carey Price is going to LTIRetire. Habs can't afford Monahan's 6.3M, they have 200k in cap space and Dach isn't signed yet.

Yeah, that makes sense

I would even guess the consistent rumors about the Avs still being involved as well make sense as well.

Naz probably wanted to stay in Colorado over going to Calgary as well and maybe even over going to NYI. I'd guess we had an offer on the table for slightly less money but still competitive enough (Maybe 7x6M or 6x6.5M sort), but like the Islanders we simply couldn't move the money out. It likely was costing us a 1st round pick to move EJ and I doubt CMac was willing to do that.

This is genius by Montreal. LTIR him for a free 1st rounder. Then to top it off if Monahan does get relatively healthy he can probably gets an asset at the deadline with 50% retention as a rental.

Also all the talk of Lou having this in the drawer needs to be put to bed. The fact that this cost a 1st rounder proves how hard it is to move money. This pretty clearly looked like a race between NYI/CGY to see who can move enough money first. Calgary finally bit the bullet and paid a 1st rounder to make it happen. Lou was never going to budge.

Would rather Naz go East. Even with the loss of basically their first line, Calgary is looking pretty strong again.

It's crazy to think how much depth this team has lost over the course of two years. Imagine if we hadn't won the cup. People would definitely be screaming our window is closed.

Yea if Monahan could go straight to LTIR then CGY wouldn't pay a 1st to get rid of him.

Money seems nearly impossible to move, that's why I'm guessing Carey Price is going to LTIR. How else are they gonna make room for Monahan and Dach? That's like 9M for both players.

So either Montreal is fully onboard making Dach a RW, or Christian Dvorak is getting traded.
Or maybe Dach doesn't want to sign in Montreal ?

Usually after acquiring an RFA like they did, the guy gets signed in short order.

only 3 years at 4.4, might click with former teammate and Nuke. send us back barron ha..

The cap hit isn't outrageous, I just think he's an awful and extremely overrated player. Got into some heated debates with Habs fans when he was traded about how he was going to turn into some stud 60+ point player in Montreal compared to Arizona.

The reality is he isn't a play driver at all, his analytics suck and outside of the PP he's really bad, all of which continued to prove to be accurate descriptions of him as a player when he went from Arizona to Montreal.

I think as a 3C, you could do worse(Although defensively he was atrocious with Montreal so even at 3C I'd have concerns at this point), but as a 2C I legitimately dont think you could do worse in the NHL.

We are still better than Calgary and best in the west. Window still open.
