The Avs aren’t going to push themselves right to the closest penny of the cap unless a perfect deal falls on their lap somehow. They don’t want to have to play games with 16 skaters again and be stuck in a position where they can’t call anyone up. Looking at Capfriendly and adding Meyers to the active roster it looks like the Avs will have approximately 2.5-3M for their final (23rd) player

I'm betting Stastny at 1x2M is the move.

That would leave them with $1M in space to start the year. By trade deadline that means adding ~$3M without needing to send salary back. Which means come on down Bo Horvat or JT Miller @50% retention hopefully.

7M real isn't a bad cap hit for Naz for the next 2-3 years.

Obviously the 7 years is gonna suck but if your Calgary and you win a cup in the next 3 years who tf cares. I think its a fine move by them.

Honestly I bet Colorado would have liked to do that deal themselves as well, but I really dont think it could possibly work with Mackinnon getting $12+ next summer.

Avs obviously lost the ability to give Naz an 8 year deal once July 13th came around but man I would have been quite happy to have signed him to the exact same contract Nuke signed. 8x6.125M is the same money as a 7x7 deal just for one extra year(Where Kadri would certainly be LTIR'd by that point anyway).

$7M spread over 7 years, but I bet he's getting over $9M the next couple years.
