All 8 eastern playoff teams are in the top 10 of The Athletic's season projection. The eastern playoffs are gonna be a free for all by the looks of things.

The Avs have an entire 2nd line, 2nd pair RHD, and starting goalie all hitting UFA this offseason. They need to be going for it, not worrying about tomorrow. Make the moves you have to make to feel confident that this roster is complete. Don't look back in 5 years and wonder what could have been if only you'd traded for _____.

I agree, we need to go for it, but why not spend that 1st round pick (plus whatever else is necessary) on someone that's going to help you next season too? Especially given that we'll probably lose 2/3 of our 2nd line.

I agree with that. That's why I've been suggesting trades like Dvorak + Lehkonen. The rental forward market isn't that great now that Giroux and Hertl are gone and JT Miller (seemingly) isn't moving. Copp is the one good 3C rental available, but he has concussion issues and is a rental (unless he comes extended).

I'd much rather see the few assets we have get used on players with term. Normally it's difficult to strike trades at the deadline for players with term as you can't get retention to fit them under the cap, but the Avs are in a unique position where they can acquire a big contract or two without retention given that they have Landeskog's LTIR situation that case easily be taken advantage of.

I was thinking of Adam Henrique. Until that MacKinnon contract kicks in.

Two more days of speculation, almost there everyone! I don't know how we would've fit him at the time but signing Danault last year was the real prize. He would've been perfect on this team and insurance when Kadri leaves.

Anyway, one of Lekhonen/Copp/Kessel/Crouse + Paul is still my dream scenario. Lets see what Super Joe can do.

One thing about Kessel is that he routinely brings it when games matter. His Pittsburgh play is obviously a big example of this but he was also awesome against Boston when he was on Toronto, and was great with Boston as well. I also thought he was the best forward in the entire Sochi Olympic Games, he was electric every time he was on the ice.

I would not mind him one bit, I think he still has more in the tank. Kessel can look done at times but throughout his entire career how good he has looked can be correlated to his motivation, the bigger the need the better he plays. He has had nothing to play for in Arizona but who knows how he looks on another cup contender.

Yep. Part of the reason why I don't worry about him not producing right now. Dude knows how to turn it on in the big moment.

We'll see who blinks first on giving up a 1st for Giordano. Hopefully it's Dubas and not Armstrong (as long as that doesn't mean that St. Louis end up with Chychrun).

Crouse and Copp I suppose. Seems like Depth moves wins Cups.

For fun tho

Chychrun + Crouse

Girard + 2023 1st + Compher

Copp for I dunno
I don’t think that’s close…Chychrun>Girard, Crouse>1st. There’d need to be a *big* add to make up that difference.

We should just keep adding defensemen. Go pick up Gio and Mayfield. No one would expect up being that deep on defense in the playoffs.
