2023 2nd + Barron for Lehkonen
2023 1st + something for Copp
2023 4th for Halak

That seems doable no?

Of course we were never in on Giroux, the insiders almost never know who the Avs want. They just use them as shit to throw at the wall because it frustrates them that Avs don't give them a single nugget of information about anything.

Giroux aside, I don't think this is true. Teams talk to teams about players all the time. Even throw offers around.

Only one team can trade for a player though. Just because he goes to one team, doesn't mean it was untrue that other teams were pursuing them.

I do think a lot of rumors prior to the deadline are based on old conversation though from a month+ beforehand. Especially about the Avs. That's why someone feels comfortable leaking them.

Usually the leaks about the Avs come from other teams, and IMO are designed to spark fan interest in a player, and re-ignite trade talks and pressure the team to finalize a deal.

unfortunately the Avs are unlikely to find anyone as impactful as Giroux, but hopefully Sakic can grab a couple of middle six guys, and Byram is back soon.

I'm dying on my Copp + Stastny hill.

  • Copp (50%) + Stastny (50%) <> COL 2023 1st, Aube-Kubel*, Bowers, Kaut
    • *Hopefully Compher but trying to be realistic

Landeskog-MacKinnon-Rantanen
Nichushkin-Kadri-Burakovsky
Stastny-Newhook-Copp
Helm-Sturm-Compher
Compher is Kyle Connor's linemate from college - the Jets have just got to get those 2 back together!

Stastny $1.875m (50%)
----> $3.695m

Yeah as you've done you'd need to shift money out as you'd be $695k over the cap otherwise (with $3m deadline capspace).

If you're all-in and want to keep the extra depth though it would make sense to pay another team a ~5th for double retention instead of including NAK (assuming he's not more than a cap dump in the trade).

The 2023 2nd already went to Anaheim for Manson. Avs don't have a 2nd until 2024.

Cap-wise you'd need to get 50% retention on both Lehkonen and Copp to make it work (with only $30k to spare!). There would be no capspace left for Halak though, nor a roster spot - unless you're moving a roster player out.

Crazy that Fletcher had to add 2 prospects and a 5th to Giroux to get a top 10 protected 1st, Tippett and a 3rd
Just brutal. I think Tippett is gonna gonna be a dud and they gotta wait a 3 drafts to get their best draft pick. I get that Giroux had Florida as their favorite, but that’s a sad sad return for one of the best Flyers ever.

I am curious if Sakic makes a move for a 3rd goalie. Miska and Annunen allowed 10 goals tonight for the Eagles.

The roster is at 23 players right now, but with Girard and Landeskog going on LTIR soon there will be two roster spots open. Could definitely see those spots being used to bring in a forward and a 3rd goalie.

Copp ($1.82m @50%) would leave $1.28m left in deadline capspace which would be enough capspace to get a cheap goalie.

Forsberg
Wedgewood
Craig Anderson
Aaron Dell
Halak (at least ~$250k retained)
Hamburgler
