So Russia won this tournament already. Why even bother after 2014 Minsk fiasco.

The right choice. What surprises me is that the vote was so close: there's no guarantee that the new Tampere arena would even be completed for the 2021 WC, Finland co-hosted the tournament in 2012 and 2013 and the attendance was poor. The last and only time Latvia hosted was in 2006. Belarus has only hosted it once as well and it was a great success.

Looking forward to a well-attended tournament.

You beat us by one vote! Hopefully this won't now delay the building of the new, flashy Tampere arena.

Shame Tampere didin't get it (yet).

In the new Tampere's arena, there should be according the company, that builds it: train station inside the arena, 100m high buildings, hotel, a big Casino and stuff like that.. Great complex, and 13 000 seats in multipurpose arena, that is build for hockey first (crowds close to ice and what else ever that means).

I wait for Tampere WHC.. must go.

Tampere arena is delayed, because they haven't been able to milk enough taxpayers' money to pay for it.

Riga is a nice place to visit and with affordable ticket and beer prices, it's easy to be a successful host.

Why would this delay the construction?

Well, as it would have functioned as a kind of force majeure for the local politicians and project owners. But as we got the following year, there won't be a big change - I basically believe in these sorts of mega projects only when they actually lay the foundation and begin the actual work on site...

Since they found investors for this project just days ago, it seems that it's going to happen.

The arena is just small part of the complex. Something that the owners/investors wouldn't even want there but they'll build the arena because that's how they get licence to build the high-rises next to the arena.

The complex will be build but not because of the arena.

Needs Prague & Brno, preferably in 2023 or 2024. Brno is going to build a fully new arena, for about 12 000 spectators, should be done by the year 2023 or 2024, maybe even sooner.

Never been to Belarus so if the US goes there maybe I can check it off the list, otherwise I have no interest in going to Belarus. But Riga would be fun to go back to

That was a damn fun tournament all in all, and put the right carnival spirit back in after Finland/Sweden had all but killed it with catering for shrimps. Plus, a win puts you in beer for a week or so, but a final like that has you stocked with whine for a lifetime.

And all that after the ridiculous political drive for boycotting the event, while the big sport culprits are building arenas with slavework to everyone's content humming.

That seems a bit odd? Smaller arena, smaller city, not as easily accessible as Helsinki, etc.

Then again, Tampere doesn't get to host very many international events and it's still very accessible by train and car. Many would also consider the city to be some sort of heart of hockey in Finland.

I'm not completely sure if it will be the main venue, I just know that Finland will play their games in Tampere.

Tampere is hockey city and their new arena will have over 13k seats in hockey, like hartwall. Plus it will
Have big Casino, hotel in the arena complex, trains stopping inside the arena. The casino will be another main casino of Finland. Live hold em and full Casino service, plus its new so its modern. Also the hockey arena itself will be very modern and build hockey first (stands close to ice ect) so im pumped to see it there.

In helsinki there is so much big happenings, that whc isnt as big deal, but in tampere its biggest thing (also because tampere has long hockey traditions, it is THE hockey town). Also it is way more reachable from Savo or Oulu area and not that far fron Helsinki neither
