I don't think an average forward group includes the leading goal scorer or two top 5 point producers in the NHL.

Way too top heavy, lacking depth.

Our inability to score goals is the main reason we were sent packing against CBJ and Montreal, I don't even think that's debatable.

We played Ottawa and Montreal like 18 times
Two teams that can't score and Carey Price didn't even play in half of them

We played Patterson less Vancouver
We played Calgary with Monahan and Winnipeg without Laine

People don't realize how easy NHL had made it for us last year and somehow found a way to mess things up

Quiet you, we won the division!

Just wanted to point out that while I don't hate the signing, I already knew the narrative in this thread before I opened it.

"Great signing" as you'd only expect from a bargain bin signing by the Leafs. I swear the only acceptable contracts for half this fan base are those under 2 million lol.

he dufas ... u litterally dont need to go into every thread and complain about dubas ,,,,,,, we get the point, you not a fan , you want a medal ?
also, unless your 12 you do realize the player can decide where he wants to go even if he is offered more money term or whatever ......... you dont think 20 teams around the league offered perry more money ? if richie signs for like 1 mil you dont think 20 other teams probably offered him more ?

going back to the topic of the thread. because of the whole rfa thing i dont actually hate this pickup , we have control so worst case scenario hes a marlie for the year and we still have control for next year, best case scenario he does great and then he can be traded for peices etc.
Dubas sucks. He signs these guys because he put the team in a cap disadvantage. Fire him sooner rather than later. Shinnyhan needs to go too. Failures. He’s not very slick. He thinks he is. Get your head out of the dumpster. The guy blows This guy is a joke So you can’t take the shaming Dubas is getting. To bad

If this is their big FA winger signing and they had the cap to sign Ritchie and didn't to fit in this scrub who didn't play last year I think I might have just become anti-Dubas.

If it is in addition to that signing then nice, I thought Ritchie would eat all the cap.

He’s far from a scrub tf is wrong with you…dude was looking real good before his injury problems…TML happens to have a HUGE sports science team and funnels a ton of money into it…if he gets hurt he goes on LTIR and the money goes back on the cap…literally low risk high reward if he can recapture his time with the ducks

Depending on who our big addition is in the top 6, I'm liking this lineup more then last season's. Our depth quality is better assuming Bunting and Kase perform which I'm confident they will. We should be a quicker team where last year with guys like Joe we were slow, and more skilled. I'm not big on Kampf but he's good defensively which is important.

Is the depth actually better? Hyman hasn’t even been close to replaced. Losing Joe Thornton is an upgrade regardless of who takes his place.

I think Kampf is easily our best addition. I’m sure he won’t get noticed by fans who want flash, but I think I he will make a huge impact.

Wow big brain time right here

Leafs have next to no money to spend

I tend to think Mikheyev is traded because he becomes a UFA after this season. If he breaks out he is gone because we can't afford him anyways. If he wants to stick around for 1.5m ...great, but I seriously doubt he will.

Engvall is still an RFA if I am not mistaken at the end of his current deal. If he isn't...get rid of him now while you can get something for him.
He’s walking. Campbell, Rielly, Sandin & Liljegren all up for renewal

With all due respect to those people happy about this signing, this offseason UFA moment feels like the post-Maurice/JFJ days where the only thing to get excited about was Niklas Hagman. There doesn't really seem to be happy moments digging through the racks at Value Village.
Well said.
This team is not gonna win a cup and you burn yet another year of high end talent.
Amazing these people still have a job with such a storied franchise , at such a cruicial time in our history.
Shameful.

Good analytical numbers but completely made of glass.

Sign Tatar and the forward group looks average instead of complete dogshit.
So true.
Awful situation with no way out except to win.
This current team is not gonna win anything.

phase 1: Sign over the hill 40+ year olds that have nothing left.
phase 2: go for bargain bin players and hope for break outs.
phase 3: do it the proper way and build a balanced team.

Whatever their trying to do is not going to work. Teams that win are not built this way. Dubas f***ed this team with the big 4 contracts and now he needs to keep doubling down on bad decisions.
Perfect.
So easy to see.

I will give Dubas huge respect if he comes out and said something like, the fact that he didn’t need to trade any of the Core Four should be consider a huge win this off-season.
My fav Football/Soccer team used to have an owner and GM coming out and saying that all the time.

I sincerely hope this isn't what Dubas is thinking for a top 6 winger.

At this point, I think you're probably looking at 1 of Bunting, Kerfoot, or Mikheyev finding themselves in the top 6 on opening night. Personally, I'd hope its Bunting.

To me, Kase is a guy you put on the right side of the 3rd line with Kerfoot or Spezza in the middle, and maybe a Mikheyev on the left to try and create a 3rd line that can be a regular offensive contribution at 5on5.

I believe the Leafs need to get away from the ridiculous usage of Marner & Matthews -- let them play a normal 1st line forward shift and use the fact that you've got a mediocre 2nd line centre on your 3rd line.

That Leaves Kampf, Simmonds, and Engvall on your 4th.

Keefe tends to mix and match lines, I’m sure a few players will cycle around the top nine depending on chemistry/ injuries.

He doesn’t pick a combo and refuse to make changes, at least not in the regular season.
