Spezza and Galchenyuk did really well.

Spezza fell into our lap. He wanted to play close to home. That's widely known

Gally didn't do that well. He had good games here and there but overall wasn't thst great

Oh yeah. We still didn't make it past 1st rounder with these low risk players

And the low risk players were what you saw as the problem?

With all due respect to those people happy about this signing, this offseason UFA moment feels like the post-Maurice/JFJ days where the only thing to get excited about was Niklas Hagman. There doesn't really seem to be happy moments digging through the racks at Value Village.

you do know that these contracts are the ones you want to sign. All the big UFA’s signed this year are on horrible deals. I’m glad we actually stayed patient and got the UFA’s we did, except Kampf,
I feel there were better options but whatever.

the way money was being splashed around this year it’s better for us to do anything big...

Yes. These vanilla players

My problem with this management is hoping for miracle signings

They were hoping that Joe T playing at home will find his magic. Didnt
Same with Simmonds. He didn't and he won't
Same with Foligno

These low-risks singing dont work. But they'll play and take up a contract and a roster spot

Like who the f Kampf?
Why Gabriel and now Kase.

I mean that's close to 3 million. You add 1.5 more you get Saad

Another BS take....but whatever makes you sleep well at night.

Wasn't a fan of this because I don't think he'll play a full season. But it's a low risk signing.

Relax.

Yes, you can sign anyone regardless of whether or not they want to sign here.

This is what makes Leafs fans look arrogant. We would love to sgin those guys, but maybe they don't want to sign with us.

That hit didn't look like much either...

That was my first thought as that was no jarring hit into the boards where his head hit the glass or ice etc, but a play that likely happens often during a game simply battling for the puck where a stick comes up like that.

That hit happened 3 games into a season and knocks him out for 53 regular season games and counting as well as missing all of Bruins playoffs.

I wish him well and hope he gets better, but I'm not sure he should be continuing his NHL career if that type of contact puts you out of action for months because of reoccurring concussions.

The fact that the Bruins medical staff have his full injury history, and the team decided not to give him a qualifying offer and cut him lose as a UFA instead doesn't seem like they don't want to risk his health further, nor believe he will be making a full risk free recovery any time soon. Those actions speak louder than words.

PS I wonder if he needs to pass a team physical before he can sign the contract, or if that procedure happens at the next Leafs training camp?

phase 1: Sign over the hill 40+ year olds that have nothing left.
phase 2: go for bargain bin players and hope for break outs.
phase 3: do it the proper way and build a balanced team.

Whatever their trying to do is not going to work. Teams that win are not built this way. Dubas f***ed this team with the big 4 contracts and now he needs to keep doubling down on bad decisions.

chicago/Pittsburgh were built very similarly. Bargain guys on the wings, tandom goalie system.

Just remembered one of his concussions is from Muzzin in 2020. Gotta feel for the guy, he's gone from one of the most underrated players in the league to almost being forced out of it before he got his real payday based on his talent & production.

I'd love to see him healthy this year and build up value. Him being a RFA for us next season could really be amazing if he hits.

It wasn't at all.

Muzzin also pulled his groin going for a leisure skate in the playoffs - hopefully not a sign of things to come.

Sometimes shit happens unfortunately. Kase has definite injury concerns. Hopefully he can stay healthy because if he us he can definitely outperform that contract though.

_____ - Matthews - Marner
Bunting - Tavares - Nylander
Kerfoot - - - Kampf - - - Kase
Simmonds - Spezza - Gabriel

Sign Ritchie to fill out that top line. Dump Engvall & Mikheyev

I was very disappointed so far this off season but things are looking alright. Robertson can play in Kase’s spot if he gets hurt.
I don't want to see the nicknames for that 3rd line

If you're going to question signings but then state you don't know who Kampf is (unless I'm misreading that line there) then that discredits your opinion quite a bit.

Do you even know if Saad would've played here?

Thats fair. You can argue it will be up to the players. No doubt

But have we even tried to reach out Saad camp and see what he's thinking ?

It's the same approach in draft and its the same approach free agents. Risk averse moves. Hoping one of them is going to score 20 goals and he's going to look like a genius

Its not the players I hate its the approach and our mindset around it

Saad signed with the Blues btw

You're right especially because we are paying for the sins of our fathers.

I mean we did sign Tavares to that contract. Definitely not low risk

Brodie last year. There's only so many big UFAs you can sign. And you certainly don't want to lock up bottom 6/pair players to long-term deals.

Bruins confirm that Ondrej Kase is done for the 2021 season

But in the case of winger Ondrej Kase, whose most recent comeback attempt lasted just two periods, the door on a return to action this summer has been closed, and it’s off to the great unknown of next season and beyond.

“No,” Bruins general manager Don Sweeney said Monday when asked about Kase’s availability this postseason. “Ondrej has shut it down as well and will not be part of availability for us going forward in the playoffs.”

Injured in the second game of the season when he took contact from the Devils’ Miles Wood up high, Kase missed 52 games with concussion issues before returning to the B’s lineup on May 10. But when that comeback didn’t take, the Bruins first believed that Kase was dealing with simple ‘conditioning’ issues, but later acknowledged that they were back to square one when it came to Kase’s health after he failed to make it back on the ice for any practices or even solo skates.

The bad news (beyond the obvious) of those setbacks is that Kase and the Bruins did absolutely everything they could to make Kase’s jump back into the fire of NHL game action a smooth one. They didn’t put a timetable of any sort on him, and Kase was upfront about how he felt, at one point even going back on his own belief that he was finally ready after feeling unwell. And, still, his return lasted all of 6:49.

Kase’s concussion woes are not new. He arrived to Boston with a substantial injury history, and it’s believed that this latest concussion was his fifth documented concussion in his professional career. At just 25, that’s downright terrifying. That decision may also come down to Kase’s health, however, as the Czech wing, who has made over $9 million in his career, is almost certainly hitting a career crossroads where he may have to put his long-term health above his job.

That’s not exactly comforting when considering Kase’s injury situation, with the 25-year-old entering the 2021 season having missed 65 games due to injury since the start of the 2018 season, and with at least one documented concussion over that span. And Cassidy’s comments did little to reassure you of anything when it comes to a potential return.

Bruins confirm that Ondrej Kase is done for the 2021 season

Good analytical numbers but completely made of glass.

Sign Tatar and the forward group looks average instead of complete dogshit.
I don't think an average forward group includes the leading goal scorer or two top 5 point producers in the NHL.
