Keith Olberman was just on TSN radio and said having Gorton and JD fired was something Drury had been low key trying to get done all season. He's also not a fan of what Drury has done thus far.
I didn't even know Olberman was a hockey or Ranger fan. So take that for what it's worth.

My favorite Olberman quote: " Our long national nightmare has ended....the Rangers have won the Stanley Cup."

I don't think moving Buch really has anything to do with Goodrow and Blais so much as looking at his contract going forward and at the young players the Rangers have at RW and how a big long term contract creates some issues down the road there.

If the Rangers really have a hope of contending they need someone like Kakko to step up and become the #1 RW on the team and Kravtsov to do some more of the heavy lifting without costing a ton of money in the next several years.

At least that's my feeling on it...Buch was always going to go, I just think the return could have been better.

Also if you're afraid to change the (not contending) roster because you think moving a player will upset his friends you really should turn in your GM card.

I don't know what to think of Drury overall yet but the mere fact that he traded Buch is no big deal

Its not that he traded him, it just was an underwhelming return and it feels like you can get the same return at the TDL? unless he has other moves he needs the cap for now?

Agree with all of this except the last line.

If you, as GM, get fleeced on your top asset, you deserve to be canned immediately.

He gave away Buch for nothing.

Inexcusable.

Im sure there are other posts asking asking updates... I'm cooking dinner and running around. What do our boards insiders say/rumors since Buchnevich went down?

I think it's that last part. Buch needed to go to clear space for what comes next...which makes me really nervous. But who knows? Maybe Drury can be the fleecer and not the fleecee with the next deal.

I agree it was underwhelming, but he was a RFA so you'd have to pay him now, that could affect your ability to trade him later, might affect what their plans are this offseason (if they're hell bent on Eichel then they might need the space), and again it still limits Kakko and Kravtsov's room to grow in the coming year.

That said I'm starting to get a bad feeling that while Drury has taken his time and been deliberate on things, he's not going to stand pat and let a deal pass if it doesn't seem worth it...like, he's gonna make moves even if he shouldn't, and that's making me worried

No my last line meant that just the fact that he traded him isn't a big deal, ignoring what the return was.
As in, I dont' think it was the wrong move to trade Buch, even though I love the player. I do think this was probably the wrong specific trade though and the return wasn't good.

i don't doubt the mandate to get rid of buch was from dolan and sather.

Of course it was - this trade REEKS of Glen Sather. Add to that Edge's semi cryptic comment about Drury taking an "isolationist approach" makes me think that Sather is - if not outright calling the shots, has a lot more influence over shot calling than he did under JD and Gorton.
