Sure. They can trade down and probably still get a top guy on their board

A lot may depend for both Rangers/Columbus who is still on board when 15 comes around. It’s kind of a big drop to 25 as well. The Rangers have a lot more prospect depth than the Blue Jackets. Again I don’t know how Columbus will be looking at the quality/quantity dynamic here. If there really isn’t a guy they’re really hard on at 15 they might stick with their two later 1sts.

What about Detroit's second pick in round 1? They also have three 2nd-round picks, including ours, and three 3rd round picks. Stevie is definitely going to be active with all those picks.

If Drury is not interested in taking Wallstreet, and he's still around at number 15 it's like a perfect spot for teams in the twenties to try and move up to get him.

potential depth chart for first round centermen* + roles:

Berniers TWF
Johnson PLY
McTavish PWF
Lucius PLY/SNP?
Svechkov TWF
Räty TWF
Sillinger SNP
Pinnelli PLY
Bolduc PLY
L'Heureux TWF?

Accurate?

"Big Boys" you sign in free agency.

Yeah, but home-grown big boys get you a potential Lucic for years before he falls in production. Signing a player to be that "big-boy" could swing the wrong way in the short-term (ala Shelley, Boogaard (RIP), Glass, etc.). Where if you draft or trade for a young guy to prove themself, you can get a Boyle who will give you depth and good production for years.

Think a team should look for both to help their depth, but NYR certainly doesn't have enough of that.

Thanks for the responses. Always looking forward to the draft.

To what most of the responses were saying I can agree that it could be quite unknown as to who will be at the top of a redraft. ATM, though, it looks quite lackluster in that franchise type that @Edge was illuding to.

We will see, but view it as a weak class right now...

Yep, I think that would be my strategy. Assuming there’s a willing partner, I wait until pick 15 and see if one of McTavish, Wallstedt, Raty (maybe) or Sillinger (maybe) are there. If not, trade down with MIN or CBJ and the grab L’Heureux. I really like having 5 picks between 64-111 this year, grabbing a second to spend on a Roulette or Doan would be ideal.

Draftsim has CBJ parting with 24 + 30 for 15. I can’t see that as being realistic.

Well, it will ultimately be who they have higher on their list. This draft is primarily going to be the Drury/Morehouse show so it's tough to gauge, especially being in the unknown of what they think is good long-term for the organization. IIRC, Raty isn't that high on Drury's mind, but JG's team were high on him. We'll see...

Also, need to see how Bob's final rankings come out. Think that would give a better indication who could be around at No. 15.

I would say this...

Beniers = TWF
McTavish = GRN
Svechkov = TWF/PWF
Raty = TWF/PLY
Pinelli = PLY

The rest are wingers in the NHL despite the regardlessness you mentioned.

A part of me thinks we end up keeping the pick because the value just isn’t there to move it. It feels like a lot of teams are going to want to trade out of their picks this season, which potentially creates a buyer’s market.

One prospect to consider late in the draft... Nikita Guslistov!

Overage +1, played center in the KHL. Looked really good in a utility role for Severstal. Super quick and will dig for his team. I kind of like him as a Fast replacement down the line. Kind of reminds me of what Henrik Karlsson does defensively, too. Also doesn't look like he's 5'9", looks a little bigger than that. Could be a steal down the line if his offense translates.

I mean if you're a team like DET, CBJ, and MIN that isn't really soring with potential good prospects/have minimum prospect depth, you'd think they'd use their assets to move up and grab a potentially better player at No. 15. It's all about who falls and where players are on each team's list.

If we land McTavish, Raty or Svechkov at 15, that's a major hit imo. That's pretty lucky timing/placement to fill a need with BPA.

Don't see the need in trading the pick. We have more than enough chips to use, without using our 1st, to upgrade. Keep the revolving door of young value spinning

I'm not sure if you're underselling McTavish here. Albeit the U18, but he had great offensive numbers, showed good puck control.

The only thing is he played left wing in Europe and he looked great there. I would keep him along the boards, I think he could be more valuable there, kind of gets lost behind the net sometimes as a center and ends up on the left anyway.

the Schneider trade up was 22+72 for 19
the K'Andre trade up 26+48 for 22
given the vagaries of this draft
maybe NYR should drop twice, add a 2nd and 3rd,
then pick or trade for an actual player

At 15, I feel like at least 2 of the following forwards will be available:

Sillinger
Lucius
Raty
Svechkov
Pinelli
L'Heureux
Chibrikov

My first choices would be Svechkov, Pinelli, Chibrikov but I take any of those guys at 15 in this draft and walk away happy. There's also a (small) chance Wallstedt drops to us.

Out of these, I would love for us to get Svechkov or Chibrikov.
