What is the deal with Cale Morris? He had a great career at Notre Dame, but it seems like he didn't get signed by any NHL team. I can't find his name on CapFriendly. He's currently playing for the Rockford IceHogs in the AHL and has very good numbers through 5 games.

capfriendly only has NHL info...so the fact he isn't there must mean that he is playing on an AHL contract and is free to sign with any nhl team

If you look him up on Eliteprospects, and scroll to the bottom of th page you can see transactions.

Useful tip for next time. Looks like an AHL contract based on the tweet

Yes, I assumed he was on an AHL contract based on the fact that he wasn't on CapFriendly. My question was more about why he hasn't gotten an NHL contract.

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, I saw a few college players sign AHL deals this month. Maybe just a formality with the weird season and they'd sign NHL contracts in the summer? Who knows.

So looks like we will be picking #16 with Seattle thrown in the mix. Will we finally take a center? There are a bunch of interesting center that produce a lot more goals than assists, they are probably not the right fit for us as we need playmakers to feed Kakko, Kravtsov and Laf.

My guess is this year European prospects got much better scouting than North American ones so a lot of unknown and question marks in NA prospects especially OHL.

How do you all think Raty would fit if he was available

Nicely imo. Highly regarded at the beginning of the season, dropped a lot. Natural center. Plays two-way game.

Really depends on what we want. Offensive upside? I'd take a gamble on Lucius. Solid TW-player, Räty.

If we land around 13 we should have a shot at these guys.

I'm not gonna shit on this draft, we can still find gems.

The odds of our drafting a top 6 worthy center in this coming draft are pretty remote outside a top 10 pick. This draft has maybe 3 centers likely to do that and one or two might eventually become wings, one great goaltender, a few wings. It’s strongest in defense prospects. If we’re picking 15/16 the best thing would be to take the best player regardless of position or perceived need.

If we miss the playoffs, it looks likely that we'll be picking 15th, barring another lottery miracle. If there isn't a good center available at that spot, I would consider trading down, or trading the pick entirely as part of a package to bring in a center.

I get the idea of picking Wallstedt, but he will probably be long gone by then. If the best players available around that pick are all wingers and dmen, I don't see the point of adding yet another to the pile. Yes, one could be flipped in a trade later, but I'd rather just make the deal now.

Or another possibility is to trade up and get one of Beniers/Johnson. Beniers would be my first choice, but if he goes in the top 3, we may not be able to move up that far.

No matter what, I think Gorton is going to have to get creative this offseason. Both of our current top 6 centers will be going into the final year of their contracts. What we do this summer could shape this team for the foreseeable future.

great question yet i don’t think anybody knows. Appears to be a weak draft to begin with when compared to the 20-22 classes. From ranked #1 overall to perhaps dropping into the teens? His numbers are pretty weak

Good ideas. What would it cost us to trade up 8 to 10 spots? Ryan Strome? Trouba? We don't have a 2nd rounder so maybe we do trade down to get one.

Agreed. Due to the circumstances of this season, I can easily see this draft being looked back on in 10 years with a lot of players where people say, "how did they get him in the 4th, 5th, 6th round?" I know they happen every year, but could see this year's being even more than usual.

Kent Johnson and William Eklund did not play center this season. They’re almost certainly not going to at the NHL level. If you’re looking for a top 6 center, look elsewhere. I think both go in the top 5 as elite wing talents.

Sillinger and Raty look like they might be dependable middle 6 centers with low ceilings. Sillinger in particular would be a smart safe pick around 16.

Trading up for Beniers would be costly. He has question marks, and I’d rather we use our assets for a surefire center.

After watching a few USNTDP games, I have my center target: Chaz Lucius. The sample size from this season is small but boy is it spectacular. He has a world class shot and plays the game with tenacity and pace in all zones. I think it’s very possible he ends up one of the best players in the draft. Trading up to the 8-12 range would make sense.

Same here, agree on the rest too. For me (not trading into top 5):

Lucius
Räty

Sillinger, idk man. He's one of the best shooters ... but I dislike the small body.

Important note to remember: the Coyotes forfeited their 1st round pick this year. So if we end up with the 15th pick, we will actually have the 14th pick, assuming the Coyotes don't make the playoffs. They are in a playoff spot right now, but St. Louis is only 1 point behind with 2 games in hand. Arizona does hold the tie breaker, though.

Any of Sillinger, Raty and Lucius could be there with that pick, but it's hard to say for sure. I think rankings for each team are going to be even more varied than usual this year.

I like Raty/Lucius in the mid teens, that's good value in this draft, though there are plenty of players I'd consider in the mid teens to late first.

And for a team that has struck gold in Russia over the years how are we not talking about Lazutin or Svechkov? :D

Thank u.now i just need to read up on theae guys.

but we are gonna win the draft lottery again this year. Just so i can watch full meltdown on hfboards
And then this board meltdown when there is another ruined prospect next year.
