If we miss the playoffs, it looks likely that we'll be picking 16th, barring another lottery miracle. If there isn't a good center available at that spot, I would consider trading down, or trading the pick entirely as part of a package to bring in a center.
I get the idea of picking Wallstedt, but he will probably be long gone by then. If the best players available around that pick are all wingers and dmen, I don't see the point of adding yet another to the pile. Yes, one could be flipped in a trade later, but I'd rather just make the deal now.
Or another possibility is to trade up and get one of Beniers/Johnson. Beniers would be my first choice, but if he goes in the top 3, we may not be able to move up that far.
No matter what, I think Gorton is going to have to get creative this offseason. Both of our current top 6 centers will be going into the final year of their contracts. What we do this summer could shape this team for the foreseeable future.
