Kournianos has us taking Svechkov at 13, ahead of Raty, Lysell, and Lucius. Would that be a good pick, or are there better guys on the board?

Off the board already:
Beniers, Eklund, Power, Johnson, Wallstedt, Hughes, Clarke, Guenther, Sillinger, Lambos, Edvinsson
Steve loves Russians.

not saying he is wrong but I’m not ready to take him over the other guys you mentioned.

Sounds like a Gordie Clark play

Raty is a slam dunk no brainer if he's there.

TBH if none of the centers/players we like are there.... I'd take Wallstadt. The last thing we want holding us back, is goaltending. Shesty is 25. If he's not reliable, as in he can't play 80% of the games, we need a backup plan.

How bad is Lucius' injury? Dont know much about him but he sounds like the type of player we need. Shoot first, ask questions later.

Lucius is exactly the type of player we need. He’s looking real strong. We need a dynamic shoot first center, especially if Zibanejad doesn’t stick around. Wouldn’t be at all surprised if we picked him in the 10-15 range.

So who are the centers the folks here prefer we draft around #7-12?

My center ranking:

Kent Johnson
William Eklund
Matt Beniers
Aatu Räty
Cole Sillinger
Fyodor Svechkov

I wouldn't mind trying to trade into the 1st to nab Svechkov and add 2 centers to our prospect pool in one quick swoop.

I think Johnson is the best talent in the draft but he’s not a center.

Eklund isn’t a center.

Sillinger and Svechkov seem unlikely to stick at center.

Pretty much every top pick of the last 5-6 years who was spending some time at wing ended up on the wing. The size and style simply isn’t there for most of these guys to stay at pivot. The comparables are plentiful.

Marner
Keller
Zegras
Perfetti
Jarvis

The options at center are real thin for NYR in the top 15 if that’s where we finish.

Defensively reliable, but I'll watch more on him when I get the chance. I liked him as a riser, IIRC...

Would agree with the bolded. This is not the year to shore up on a position, especially with the uncertainty it brings talent-wise. The only true safe player is the goalie (and Wallstedt could ultimately be the best player to come out of this class). The only players that "feel" like centers in the NHL are Beniers and Raty. Others... not so much.

This is absolutely not the year to trade in the draft. Do that for the next draft with a bigger talent pool and depth...

If thats the case, than we should look to trade our pick (and more if needed) to get a top C prospect. We can't 'afford' to wait another year for a better crop. we need to get one into our system now, so they can develop in time before Panarin/Zib/Kreider age out.

What does such a trade look like? Who are the players at the table?

Re: this draft, when you get outside the top 10, I think you're looking at guys who stick on the wings or guys who are more middle six centers. In other words, if you're looking for your guy who has a shot to be part of a 1A/1B duo, this probably isn't your draft.

If I go off the Tankathon ,mock draft (to make things easier on myself), my guess is the Rangers might be debating someone like McTavish --- who they'd liked from last year.

Sillinger would be a very interesting pick, and would certainly represent the pure offensive side of things, but I don't think he sticks at center. Lucius would likely be on the Rangers radar as well.

If they can’t get a center, I like Oskar Olausson. Would rather have a pure winger that does good winger stuff than get a tweener honestly.

If I go off the Tankathon board, I'd actually be curious about Sillinger as a shoot-first, goal scoring-oriented prospect.

Ironically enough, if one believes Raty sticks at center, you can also make the argument he might be a cross section of BPA/fit if he's there when the Rangers pick.

I don't know if I see a top six forward, but if you think he can slide in as a versatile middle six type, there's a lot to like there. And I'm sure there will be a lot of people trying to find this year's Dylan Holloway.

That is more or less where my head is at too. Feels like Raty is kind of where things start to swing a bit. If Raty doesn’t stay at center, he could really go anywhere. I’m not center or bust, but I am Forward or bust. I like Sillinger too, and we know Rangers love legacy picks, but I think I like Olausson more.

What about Lucius?

Hopefully he plays in the WJC.. I have a soft spot for goal scorers with elite, borderline generational, names

I'm officially on the hype train

He's shaking off the rust of his injury still, but I think he's a name that should be in the mix.

His anticipation and offensive awareness are definitely near the top of his class. He sees the ice very well, knows where his openings are and looks like he has the hands to beat NHL goalies right now.

He has some work to do --- physically, refinements with his skating (not helped by the injury), making use of all his options, etc.

Right now, I'd say the biggest question about Lucius is whether his skating holds him back truly tapping into the full power of his offensive abilities at the higher levels, and whether it limits his effectiveness at even strength where there is less open ice and the opposition is on him very fast.

Lucius rising too for me! His name is ultimate cheesyness, but wgaf. Offensive skill is through the roof.

Question always lingers if these kids actually end up being C's in the NHL.

We have couple of centermen options in the top 15.

Lysell kinda exploded into the top 5, huh?

so who and what players fit the Rangers need and that are undrafted or drafted FA this spring/summer?? I am a little shocked the Rangers haven't signed any yet.
