Overager who turns 19 next month. Not ranked or known by many people. So likely a long shot and hope for the best in ~5 years. Teammate of Leafs goaltender prospect Akhtyamov.

There were five goalies who played at least a game with Kazan this year, including Akhtyamov, and Peksa's .909SV% was the worst.

Of course, opponents matter, goaltending stats can vary wildly year-to-year (see: Scott, Ian) and goalies are voodoo in general, but... yeah. Weird pick.

It’s a magic beans pick, not too fussed over a 7th rounder, the most important thing for this team starts in a week or so

Could have had Joe Vrbetic. What a joke pick.
Would have much rather taken him.

Unless there is some kind of an to get these guys out of the Kaban system I really don't understand this pick.

Peksa is likely being all three of Ahktyamov, Mosin, and Valiullin going into this season with Bobkov and Bilyalov as a crazy good tandem with the KHL team.

Garipov isn't far off either imo. Honestly if we were going OA goalie here we propably should have just taken Mosin.

Maybe it was a conversation like "we think Peska might not be far off from Akhtyamov."

Goalies are voodoo, who knows.. never bad to add them in the system

Unless the goalie is really good and/or shows alot of promise, why even bother drafting them? Seems like in most cases you're drafting a lotto ticket that has a very low chance of becoming an NHL goalie and even if you do hit, it often takes a number of years for them to get there with the exception of a few goalies who are able to make it to the NHL in their early 20s.

Seems like its better to simply draft forwards and Dmen who generally take less time to develop and to trade for or sign a UFA goalie when you need one instead.

To be fair, Pekka Rinne got selected by Nashville and all they saw of him was a warmup because he never got playing time. Who knows with Goalies.

If we were to draft a goalie, I wish we would finally go for a guy thats near the top of the board and not just throwing darts at a guy like Peska or Bouthillier. Would much rather go for another Connor Brown kind of pick.
