Do you take me for North American?
No I was using your point as back up for mine!
Do you take me for North American?
And out of those 8 England and Urugay have not been anywhere near "a shot at winning the whole thing" in forever. Intermittently the Netherlands have had a chance. And Belgium constantly gets talked up, but nothing ever comes of that.
It has been 50 years since anyone other than Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Italy, France, Spain or the Netherlands even made it to a final. There has never been a top4 team from NA, Oceania or Africa.
No I was using your point as back up for mine!
Jan 2015: The NHL’s long-range plan includes a Ryder Cup-style North America vs. Europe series in 2018 and a more expansive 2020 World Cup that could feature North American players with German, English, Irish, Italian or French heritage playing for those countries to grow the game in those nations.Well that sucks.I was looking forward to seeing what gimmick was next.
Team left-handed? A women's team? Moving nets? 2 pucks?

Bettmans NHL is stubborn as he'll in admitting simple truth that there is life outside of NHL. But their own pride doesn't allow them to think rationally they rather go into the war with anything not masterminded by NHL itself, even if idea himself is good. That's why hockey will never becomes global thing, small minds prevails.
IIHF World Championship only good international tournament.

Yeah but at the same time most Europeans view the IIHF WC as a legitimate tournament so I'm not sure Europeans are the best source for information.
Is that an Onion article? Who comes up with these ideas? If they do not find enough actual Irish heritage players, they can just do what they do on the St. Patrick's day jerseys and put an O' in front of any random players name. I am sure that'll help them to a breakthrough in the market.

Sadly no. They got their idea from baseball which doesn't even require you to be a citizen of a team to play. So basically there was a team USA. Team Jewish USA. Team Italians surname USA. Team Mexican USA.
The thing is if there's only 6 teams with a shot to do anything it's always the same 6 in the knock out rounds.
In soccer you might only have 5 or 6 really top end teams expected to contend but you have another 20 that can and do beat those 6 teams so you do get some variety in the final few rounds, although it's usually 3 of those 6 in the semi's. Usually.
If you do not like "international" tournaments unless everyone in them is American, just do not have them.
It's more like they want to create the appearance of an international tournament when really in baseball you have maybe 6-7 legit teams.
I guess. Americans are really serious about being 1/16th Polish or German or something. They always make sure to tell you. If this is something that interests them and makes money, then it is getting made.
The expectation though, that having American players of Irish or Mexican heritage will help grow the game in Ireland and Mexico, is flabbergasting. Are these people locked in some basement between press conferences? They seem so out of touch.
Same attitude that gave us team North America u23 and team Europe -4.

Its a lot of hockey for NHLer's. Seasons are so grueling and just long. Not to mention injuries, players need time to heal, recover and post season workout. Just gets to be too much
Hockey used to be a winter sport and winter job. Now it's year around
