I think a potential arbitration decision looms heavy on this one.

Teams might like him at $3.5 or $4 million, maybe a lot less at $5m.
You know, the more I think about it, the more I become convinced that this is much simpler than any of us understood:

NYR: happy to offer you a 2-year deal in the $3.5-4.0MM range.
Strome: I want something that starts with a 5, and for 3-4 years.
NYR: can't do that.
Strome: okay qualify me, then.
NYR: if we do, will you sign the QO?
Strome: sure, I will. I wouldn't dream of taking you to arbitration with my *checks notes* 59 points in 70 games last year.

Lawton is right about the progression and value based drafting. You are improving the game of hockey and your statistical odds.

Something tells me that you are getting more math nerds within the organizations.

I mean, it's really hard to trade into the 2nd round when you don't have a lot of garbage to get rid of. Also hurts they don't have a 2nd next year cause they could have traded a 2nd next year for one in the latter half of this year.

It's better than the old boys club that dominates now, who pick players based on bloodlines.

Good pick for FLA. Very good pick if he can step in a top 9 role sooner rather than later.
