1. You can’t pick very high when you make the playoffs basically every year
2. 8.5 mil AAV

I’m not blaming Hank at all for not having elite talent around him, but this is why you don’t build around a goalie or give him a big contract, regardless of how good he is
Bc then you make 3 ECFs and a SCF?

This opinion has been shown to be demonstrably false time and time again. There are many ways yo build a legit contender. Our FA decisions, several key draft misses, injuries and even deaths took a significant bite out of what could have been. To pretend like it's just down to Hanks cap hit and hank keeping us from better picks is to completely rewrite history

One of the best ways is to get elite top draft talent.. we did it. Now we have to hope the coaching is good enough and we dont get walloped by more ranger luck

Kakko's also the most shy player on our team, Laf an alpha dog. He's going to walk in there and tell Messier himself to give him 11

Hockey doesn't have many (any?) top guys that are volatile and disrespectful enough to do that.

I expect that anybody who has a drive to dominate the game has an above average respect for its history.

Yeah the most alarming thing about Kakko this year is how he looked so unconfident, not something you want to see from your supposed young studs. You want a guy like Pettersson who isn't afraid out there even though he's a twig and could die at any moment. Lafreniere strikes me as a guy like that. Kakko has comparable skill but the mentality is night and day.

It was Kakko's 1st year in a completely new environment (coming from Europe). I think we'll see a different Kakko in year 2.

give Kakko a little credit. I am sure he had a big culture change that Laf is already used to smaller ice, north american style. Kakko will have a great year this season, he was one of their better players in the play in round

This is the point I'll jump in the hype train.

I like the fact that LAF mentioned looking up to Mikko Rantanen. To me that says that he is planning to have a strong puck control and will take no steps back. Kakko and Rantanen work out together here in finland, so there is another connection.

I was thinking about this before.

Where does Lafreniere rank amongst the top draftees from the past 10 drafts?

Obviously not as good as McDavid or Kane but better than some others like Yakupov for sure.

Where do you think Lafreniere would rank in a top 5 if there was an all-time (or at least since the 80s) Rangers redraft? For fairness lets say each "prospect" is at the point right before they become full timers.
