curious to see if he works on his skating and starts next year (whenever that is) with some surprising skills in that area. Seems like a very competitive guy striving to be the best and could see him as someone who works hard on his flaws

Reports indicate he has shown significant improvement in his skating over the past year or two...so hopefully that will continue.

Is he #1 LW by the end of training camp?

I love Chris Kreider and I'm not upset he's still around. But I'd be looking to put Laf with Zibanejad, stat.

Just throwing this PSA out there, Lafreniere's sister likes/follows an anti-NYR facebook page.

disclaimer: Not advocating literally any other contact with his family regarding this or any issue, merely suspecting they may not have been Rangers fans before August 10th.

The moment when you didn't have internet access for the last day and a half and you go to nhl.com to see what's up in the draft and the first thing you see is some random guy called Alex Laferriere getting drafted in the third round by the Kings and you're like wait what.

That genuinely gave me a scare for a second.

Gotta imagine they are Habs fans. Laf playing the long game against Kreider, coming for his ice time.

Maybe the Rangers know that Lafreniere will be their center, he is open to it.

He has played center in the past. I think his hockey smarts and skills will make him thrive at a center.

Figures. She didn't crack a smile during the entire draft :D

In most other scenarios I'd agree, but when you learn that his immediate family vehemently hates the New York Rangers, that's a tad bit concerning.

Charlie McAvoy had a tweet saying he hates the Bruins from 2013 when they beat the Rangers. He seems to do just fine in Boston.

James van Riemsdyk was a die-hard Rangers fan as a kid and he spent the majority of his career with the Flyers. Nobody complained about that.

Karl Henriksson is a Capitals fan. Vitaly Kravtsov was an LA Kings fan growing up.

It doesn't matter

I imagine being a fan and being in the organization are different things...when you're there interacting with the other players, coaches, management, all trying to make it your "home" and building a sense of team and a shared common goal, it seems a little different than sitting on your couch cheering for some other team
His family will probably give him some good natured ribbing but mostly they're probably excited for his opportunity

Hugh Jessiman and Kevin Shattenkirk both were Rangers fans and both stunk as Rangers property.

I'm hoping for 91 or 17

I give fancy hockey numbers to my players on football manager

I also created LaF and gave him #17.

Wonderkid inside forward. 185 PA.
