Did he though? (I'm asking honestly because I wasn't aware of that)

We don't have access to his body composition pre and post blood clot so it's speculation.

A lot of it is based off comments from Kreider talking about playing at a lower weight felt better for him and how he could feel a difference in his performance.

My guess is had he never said anything, most people probably wouldn't have noticed much.

This is such an outdated take. The more muscle you have the faster you will skate. The more fat you have/the weaker you are the slower you will skate.

I don't think it's a matter of muscle, so much as weight gain, muscle reflex and how it all comes together.

I feel like we're breaking this down to a debate of muscle vs. no muscle or fat, and I don't think it's that basic.

Hockey trainers tend to focus on lean muscle and strength rather than weight and mass, particular in the core.

Yes lean muscle and strength is the goal and my post was too black and white when it's really in the middle. When I say getting bigger and stronger I'm not saying adding 15 lbs by any means necessary. I'm talking about adding muscle and dropping body fat. For some it could be as simple as a 2-5 lb difference on the scale. Laf is already big he doesn't need to get much bigger weight wise but you can always get stronger.

Yes it's recreational and I'm not comparing myself to professional athletes, but I'm in my early 30s and 20 lbs heavier (185 to 205) but way faster and more athletic than when I was weaker and had more body fat in my 20s. A kid I train has put on 80 lbs over 2+ years of training with me and feels much better on the ice. Every kid I train (14-20) that gains size and gets stronger raves about how they feel speed and agility wise no matter the sport. Too many older guys out there that know nothing about strength training that spread misconceptions.

I think at the pro level there may be some amount of "where is your strength and weight best distributed" that matters a bit less down the ranks.

Like, for NHL hockey do you need to be Rod the Bod with your upper body? Jacked as f*** slamming out bench presses etc etc?
Or is it more beneficial to find the balance of strong enough to stabilize yourself and work the corners but carry less muscle and weight there and focus on your lower body for strength and explosiveness in skating and balance etc.
a couple of lbs off the top might benefit you overall more than having more upper body strength

Or not, I dunno, fitness seems to be an ever changing thing where trainers, even pro trainers, are trying to find optimal ways to tweak your body just right

I am not prepared to offer a defense of the imperial measurement per se but I’ll knife fight anyone who tries to tell me that Celsius is better than Fahrenheit.

Agreed. The range just isn't big enough. The entire range of comfortable temperatures are within 10 degrees from top to bottom. 14 degrees and its cold out. 26 degrees and its hot out. f*** that shit.

Exactly this.

Faranheit is more precise. I just don’t like the markers. Why 0 is the freezing point of brine rather than water makes little sense to me.

0 should be the freezing point of water, 100 should be body temperature, and 200 or whatever should be the boiling point of water. 0 as freezing and 100 as boiling is kinda dumb imo.

Alex scored his first goal of the season today. Nice little wrister to wire it behind the goalie. Solid pick by the Rangers.

Who is this Luh-ferry-ay player in the clip? Oh, it's actually someone named Laferriere and entirely unrelated to Lafreniere. confusing post. bad joke.

It was actually a good joke, sorry.

That was a solid 6/10 wangtease. I fell for it hard and almost thought I had been reading Lafreniere's name wrong for months. Literally sat here thinking to myself "Huh, that was weird to hear.."

Per the Brooksie article, Laf was skating in the practice arena with at least 14 other players on Monday.

I don't know about you guys, but i'm starting to think this is reality.

I just want to see our team play, grow, abd improve. We’ve got the best looking trajectory of any NY team. We’re young, we’re talented, and we’re on a pathway to build a team that can compete for many years. I just want to see things happen already!
