The Challenge with Mogilny is how much time he missed. From the 1989-90 season until 1999-2000 season, he only played more than 67 games in three seasons.

Mogilny was an incredibly talented player, who could do some amazing things --- when he wanted to. And that's part of the challenge with him. For as talented as he was, he was too often not included in those best of the best lists because you never knew which version you were going to get.

There was the 93 and 96 versions where you saw a guy who should've been challenging for the goal scoring lead every season, and then there was the guy who seemed content to get his 30 goals and 70 points. That wouldn't be so bad if you didn't already know what he was truly capable of, and if he did other things. When we look at some of the other names on the ballot, they weren't as skilled as Mogilny, and they didn't quite have the ability to reach out strike you offensively when you least expected it, but they also found other ways to punish you or impact the game.

But when he was on his game, Mogilny was arguably the most talented all-around Russian forward to skate in the NHL --- and that includes Pavel Bure.
Feel like he’s 90s Gaborik

Looks like Hossa, Iginla, Kevin Lowe, Doug Wilson.

I mentioned Lowe a couple days ago. I don't think a lot of people are going to be that crazy about that one though. FWIW Lowe won more Cups I think than the rest of them combined.

Kim St. Pierre and Ken Holland round it all out.

Iginla is a given.

Hossa I can understand, though I think he's right in line with other guys who are still waiting.

Lowe and Wilson? Eh, somewhat similar reaction to Andreychuk getting in.

I don't get Kevin Lowe. But they definitely made him wait. This is his 20th season of eligibility.

Even longer for Wilson.

Lowe is part of the love affair for all things Oilers of the 1980s. A very good player, a very important player. But not quite what I think of when I envision a Hall of Fame player.

I'm with ya on Wilson who I also mentioned in my opening remarks. He was so underrated back in the day but man was he solid. I'm serious when I say this...I love Zubie but him getting in last year was a bit shaky for me and I know some others I respect as well questioned the Zubie induction. Wilson IMO was better than Zubov and so I gotta believe he gets in.

The fact that Carbenaeu got in last year which was ridiculous, leads me to believe those in here who are saying Brind'Amour gets in could be right seeing Brindy was much much better than Carbenaeu ever was at least too me from my having watched both play.

I'm obviously with ya on Iginla who I've said a few times is a virtual lock. I'm not feeling Lowe or Hossa tho. I think Alffy gets in before Hossa.

I'm really rooting hard for Mogilny. I owned him a few times in my big $ league and watched him alot. He was so damn skilled and good. I said it before and I'll say it again, I think he was as good if not better than his Russian goombas Bure and Federov.

Yeah he could seem like he was loafing at times but his #'s are Hall worthy. Had he just played even 150-200 more games in his injury riddled career, we aren't even having this conversation as Mogilny would have been inducted his first season eligible. Hoping for it but it's probably not going to happen....we'll see

Wilson plays in the era of Bourque, Leetch, Chelios, Coffey, Stevens, Niedermayer, MacInnis and Langway and I'd easily take every one of them over Wilson. I'd probably take Zubov over him too. He was a good player though. My issue with Hossa is he's an excellent player but he never really carried any of the teams he was on. I would take Mogilny over him.

Iginla is the best of this bunch. Lowe's got 6 Stanley Cups. Winning means something. But the other thing is defensive defensemen don't often get a lot of respect. That said Lowe is kind of a big reach.

That's part of the problem right there. These last few years have featured "good" players, but I think the bar is higher for the HOF --- especially with some of the names still out there.

It's not terrible. Better than Gillies or Carbonneau.

To go off on a tangent--I've been to the Hall of Fame in Toronto twice. It's not huge but still very worthwhile--not expensive though either. I like the room where they have all the plaques on the wall. If I remember rightly that's where the trophies are too. Any fan making a trip to Toronto should go there.

I think the NHL has kind of lost the script a bit and there are guys going in every year who really weren't that great and maybe with 31 teams and trying to keep everyone represented and happy that's only inevitable. Marketability is a big deal these days.

Well we were all kind of right and wrong...lol

Iginla, Hossa, Lowe and Wilson get in from the player wing....interesting. Much much much better class than last year for sure.

every hall of fame has the same issue and hockey has the added issue of only allowing 4 players in a year (which should be removed) but I always shake my head when guys suddenly get in after so many years. what changed about kevin lowe that makes him a hall of famer today but he wasn't he previous 19 years? its crazy how they make certain guys wait so long. either you are a hall of famer or you aren't.

Also is there a limit to player eligibility for the HHOF, like a now or never deal where if they don't vote him in by a certain time he'll never get in? Making a guy wait 20 years is kind of odd...

They are playing a lot of 80's games on TV since sports have been shut down.

I know in baseball, they have to hit a certain % of votes in order to stay on the ballot. Not sure what hockey's system is.

When my old union had our convention, we rented the HHOF one night. I was in charge of the whole night. Once pretty much everyone that had asked for a ticket was there, I checked it out. It was cool. Some really neat exhibits. I played the games--there was one where you had to shoot at targets but the sticks were so curved and the pucks so light I was skying every shot into the ceiling. It was embarrassing because everyone knew I was a hockey guy.

I was surprised, I thought it would be its own building. I wasn't expecting it to be the equivalent of a large store in a partially-underground shopping mall. That threw me off a bit. LOL. I got some good pics with the Cup. I was told it was the original Cup. It was a fun night.

Yeah they have this little rink inside where kids would shoot at goalies I think and then the old Montreal Canadiens locker room. Gilles Gratton's lion mask.

I was thrown off a bit on the location too. I remember this sign with a finger pointing across the road and going through an empty-ish office like building. It turned out the finger was pointing in the wrong direction.

Haha, yeah, the whole setup was just weird. I'm walking past a Tim Hortons and some random half-empty storefronts, go down an escalator, and at the very end...the HHOF? I later found a way in that was closer, and there was an elevator, but it might have been the same way you said. It was like an office building. Wasn't as I envisioned it.

We were at the Sheraton Centre which was a great location and connected to The Path, which I actually found more interesting.

The office building's across the street. That's the direction the finger for the Hall of Fame was pointing but just to confuse/misdirect tourists like me. Some weird kind of Canadian humor I think. I didn't have to cross the street at all. I just had to go in the opposite direction the finger was pointing and that is an indoor mall. I went down the escalator both times too and there it was but if you walk around the front it's like an old brownstone-ish bank building.

I know we stayed once at the Carlton (and that was in 1994 and I watched the first game of the Stanley Cup finals against Vancouver there) which was right next door to where the old Maple Leafs Gardens was and we were once at a hotel that had some kind of indoor waterpark for the kids and was near the Eaton Centre and once down on the lakefront and there was an international music festival going on there at the time. It's been a while.
