I mean the game situations were totally different though. The Broncos were down 1 at midfield with 40 seconds left, you shouldn't be in prevent defense there.

It was an extremely similar but not identical situation. In both cases if you run the blitz and it doesn't work you will lose the game (much more so in the DEN/CLE one for that matter). It was a dumb play call but for the whole media (and fans) to act like one was fine and the other wasn't is nonsense. I guarantee if the play call worked the media would have praised him for the call to put pressure on Carr and not even give him a chance to toss a deep ball.

The funny thing is if you look at the comments when he did the exact same thing in the Browns/Broncos game they were all about how great the play call was. Because it worked. This time it didn't work so it's the worst playcall ever. Can we please by consistent? If it was good then it was good now and if it was bad then it was bad now.

Williams is consistent. It’s always been who he is. He plays with fire. I’m not sure why anyone around the Jets should be surprised Greg Williams took huge gambles in a critical part of the game.

I'll just agree to disagree, but I don't think it was anywhere close to similar.

They have one win against a team with a winning record in 2019 and 2020 combined...it happened to be yesterday. Congratulations. It's still a fact that they mostly have not beaten any good teams. And ok, sure, they lost close ames to TB, PHI, DAL (2 of which are bad teams anyway) but they also beat washington, washington, and cincinnati by a combined 6 points but you don't hear anyone saying that against them.
Whatever fits your negative narrative. But it doesnt seem to be that youre a Giants fan. Because yes it is a big deal they lost close games to TB, LAR, CHI, and even to PIT. It does matter. And those losses came in the beginning of the season under a new coaching staff, after an unusual Training Camp, and with a growing and developing O-Line. Who cares that they only won their games by however many points. If you want to say a loss is a loss and the close ones dont seem to matter for context in your narrow minded view of the team, then a win is a win I guess. Its absolutely absurd to look at every side of the team as if play in wins and losses are mutually exclusive. The team is getting better. That was an incredible win yesterday against a potent Seattle offense with their backup QB at the helm who was making his 8th start in 9 years. Get a damn grip guy and keep your negativity with your Jets team and disaster of a coaching staff.

Honest question for Giants fans, as I myself was wondering it: do you think with Daniel Jones in the game, you win? I mean the easy is answer is, "Of course, he's twice the player McCoy is, he'd make way more plays and we may win going away." However, the knock on him has of course been the ill-timed mistakes, and by not having him in the Giants pounded the ball until they eventually found great success late. McCoy, while mediocre at best, did a pretty good job managing things. No real way of knowing, but would Jones have helped or hindered?

A little column A and a little column B...

Giants fans are getting a bit ahead of themselves. I’m actually rooting for them to make the playoffs but I have quite a few Giant fan friends strutting around like they’re 12-0 all of a sudden talking about how they really should have 9 or 10 wins. If they weren’t in an absolutely abhorrent division then they would not be making the playoffs. They’ve beaten what? One team with a winning record in 2 years? Will you trust Jones in the big spot? For all the talk of barely losing to good teams, they leave out barely beating the Bengals starting a backup QB. You can’t praise yourself for one, but not look at the other. With that said, they have improved, it looks like they found the right coach, and they likely will make the playoffs. They’re are certainly trending upward, but still have a ways to go.

I’m all about being positive, but let’s keep things somewhat sensible.

I like the aggressiveness. I like that he gambles, but there’s also a time to be smart. Any football fan watching a cover zero in a Hail Mary situation is insane. Yea, if there’s a minute left and he’s trying to make a play rather that sit in a prevent defense then I get it.

I love it...my phone is blowing up from friends of mine asking me how I feel about the GW getting fired. A few are surprised that I'm so happy seeing IMO it gives the Jets an even better chance to lose their last 4 games of the season than they already had.

Jets are going to get absolutely torched next week versus a pissed off Russell Wilson and a revenge minded Jamal Adams. As Bart Scott so famously said "Can't Wait"...lol

It is an interesting question. McCoy, while not great at all, did a fantastic job of protecting the ball and taking his sacks. He didn’t make any egregious mistakes.

But I do think they win that game more easily with Jones in. They couldnt get anything going offensively while their defense was playing lights out. Garrett called a great game imo for what he had to work with. I think if you have Jones in they would have been able to create more separation on the scoresheet for breathing room

Where is the negative narrative?

In 2019-2020 the Giants have won one game against a team with a winning record. They are a bad team that is benefitting from being in a historically bad division. They are the best of those teams in that division so they will likely make the playoffs.

Are they truly playing that much better or is it that three of their last four games have been against Washington, Philadelphia, and Cincinnati who are all terrible and worse teams than the Giants? This week they played well.

The rest of your post is incoherent so I am not going to try to decipher it to respond.

Interesting thought...

Obviously, Jones is the more dynamic player, but the Giants won on old fashioned Giants football. Running the ball and playing defense.

I don’t disagree. I’m not saying what he did was beyond criticism . I’m just saying we shouldn’t be surprised. If anyone’s crazy enough to try it, it’s him.

jones hasnt made really any mistakes this past 2.5 games he played. if he had kept that up then we have a better chance of winning. he has a hammy injury though and it clearly effected his ability to throw the ball last week so it might have been too ineffective even if they through him out there.

I am not walking around strutting my stuff like this team is spectacular. But I am also not going to listen to Jets fans, and even the pessimistic Giants fans, beat the team down and ignore the other aspects of the team and gameplay that are positive. Yeah they snuck by against the Bengals but they also lost Jones in the 2nd half. Granted they werent playing great in the 1st half, they still likely win by more than they did. Special Teams had their worst game against the Bengals. It happens. Why can’t we Giants fans be happy about the progress of the team? Why do we have to be told ‘But, but, but, wait a minute...’ Yeah, the last couple years were a disaster under Shurmur. He was terrible. The O-Line was being rebuilt. Thomas hasnt let up a Sack in the past 5 games. They are improving. There is more time in the pocket. And the hope is that with more time Jones can get this team into the playoffs and steal a game or two or four, especially with a top defense in this league. A defense that lost key contributing LBs and has yet to insert Mckinney. They have Pro Bowl level play from Williams, Ryan, and Bradberry.

I guess the question is, when are we Giants fans allowed to be happy? When can we be positive about our team? Since our emotions and feelings get to be dictated by others apparently. And this isnt directed at you @Barnaby

No, no... it was pretty coherent. Maybe you didn’t like to hear it, but that doesn’t make it incoherent. Sorry, thats not how this works.

Giants fans definitely should be excited. Looking at the season in segments, which is how a lot of teams end up doing it, they're trending up and rather quickly.

Was this last segment with some questionable teams? Sure, but they are in pretty much every game with a young team. Now they are coming out on the better end of those close games. This last game wasn't a questionable team, they're legit contenders in the NFC.

They've got pieces in place to build this thing up over the next few years. It'll depend on how Jones develops, but there is no reason to damper excitement unless they revert back to where they were when the season began.

Yes that is filtering for an extremely specific near exact scenario. The other one he did it in is similar with some slight differences.

I'm also assuming teams sent 6+ rushers when this occurred in the 30-40 yard range or in the 15-30 seconds remaining range and that is why they came up with those filters.

Not to mention as per this (twitter.com/jameswoldbdc/status/1335756770761912320?s=20 -> www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwiBW6j80kI) it's not even true because that scenario did appear to occur in a playoff game and was ignored.

They should be excited. They are trending up and likely to be in the playoffs. If Jones gets healthy and continues to progress then they have a chance to do exceptionally well in the NFC East for years to come.

Do I think they are legit super bowl contenders today? No, I don’t.

Maybe I just find some of my Giants friends fans annoying. Every loss they have - they really should’ve won, but they got screwed. They were close games. Every tight win they have against a lousy team doesn’t matter because they got screwed and deserved to win by more.

They are winning the NFC East which is great, but fail to factor in the division and think they have a legit shot to win the Super Bowl. Can they steal a game? Sure. Do I see Daniel Jones going on a super run and getting smoking hot like a prime Eli? Not today, maybe in the future at some point if he trends up.

I get being positive. If the Jets were doing this in an obliterated AFC East I’d be pumped about potential playoff football but I’d still be grounded enough to realize they weren’t going to walk into KC or Pitt and win a road game.

I think before you say the Giants are "trending up" you really need to look at the schedule. The Jets did the exact same thing last year. They started 1-7 and ended 7-9. But everyone knew it was because they had an insanely weak schedule to end the year. They had some big wins (17 over Washington, 31 over Oakland). What did it mean? Nothing. They played bad teams and beat them. It doesn't mean they were good or getting better or anything of the sort.

Not that I'm planning any parades, but Eli was only in year 3, not quite prime yet, and had a tremendous defense for his first SB.

They've won 4 in a row, one of them against a top team while starting a hapless backup, screw their division's record.

Speaking as Giant fan, any other Giant fan talking about winning the Super bowl is being facetious or delusional.
