Lions, do
Darnold + Seattle 3rd
for
Okudah + Lions 2nd

swap of 3OAs + picks. Okudah returning from injury, would bolster CB position

like the enthusiasm but couldn’t Detroit select their next QB in the draft and keep Okadah?

IMO, Darnold is worth more to the Jets than anybody else. The Jets caused this mess but i still don’t see anybody giving up much for a QB with this many question marks. I too think Darnold is better than this but i don’t see an NFL executive taking the risk when the Lions can draft a kid. I can see Darnold going for a 3rd or maybe a 2nd. Not a kid who went in the top 4 last year with Darnold upcoming 2nd contract.

Yeah, there are a lot of options all around.
It's in the news Stafford may be moved.
If they get a good replacement -- possibly Darnold -- that frees them up to use a pick elsewhere.
That is, like you suggest a 2 headed coin. Darnold's 2nd contract will cost more than any rookie deal, tho the silver lining is unless he goes nuts w/monster performance he will, with merely improved year, be more expensive but affordable.

I disagree his value is now down to 3rd, maybe a 2nd.
He has demonstrated in isolated opportunities he can be a good QB, these last 2 games one such case in pt.
However, at this pt he really needs weapons and protection as opposed to an elite guy who can work w/less.

Each team has to figure out best scenario.
Again, I am open to almost anything except moving Sewell. He's Tony Munoz 2.0 and would be 1OA if not for Lawrence.

if Darnold is worth that much, again, he's best for the Jets IMO.

and if Sewell is the next Munoz i have to think he and Darnold at QB is the best moving forward.

If we didn't want to believe Carton, Rap confirms it.

Tomorrow (or monday ) is going to be the real New Years celebration in Jets land.

Hope we can at least send off the ol' Guru with a win vs New England. For as pitiful as our offense has been and the fact that Darnold hasn't thrown for 300 all season, Cam Newton is throwing for like, 70 yards per game. Its crazy how far he's fallen.

Inb4 he torches us for 300+ and 3 td

Brady and Belichick parting was like the Shaq and Kobe thing--who would be better apart from the other? As much as I loathe Brady (and think he's kind of a scummy person regardless) it has been absolutely lovely watching Belichick and his team struggle so badly. So much for the idea that Belichick could win with anyone at QB.

Brady has a much better team though.

yeah true, but the Patriots have been declining the past 2 years, they don't have a very good roster. Brady was looking old and kind of washed last season when they were carried by their defense, but stick him in Tampa (Winston had 5k yards and 30 tds last season) and he looks great again. He's still good enough to light it up with those kind of weapons.

Oh of course, it's not an apples-to-apples comparison for them this season. Still, there were a lot of people who felt that Brady was largely z product of Belichick's system and he'd struggle outside of it. Not so much, LOL.

Well all that says is that Brady is good not that Belichick is bad so I'm not sure why it's a positive for a Jets fan.

Belichick did very well with Jimmy G while he stripped this team of talent due to the cap.

Meanwhile . . . hoping the Limo (or taxi) waiting to take Adam Gase to airport picks up Gettleman too.

The "Brady is good part" would be relevant if you believe that New England was as good as they were more because of Brady than Belichick. As you pointed out though there is a talent disparity between the two teams so it's not necessarily a fair comparison.

I just like seeing Belichick fail, is all. Whatever the reason is.

Also, Brady and Belichick are correlated. Likely Brady is good in large part because of Belichick. It's not like he forgot everything he learned over 20 years after leaving NE.

For sure. I guess it's just more like, who will see more success moving forward. Obviously as a Jets fan your preference was for both to fall apart, but Brady thriving while Belichick fails (for whatever reason) is obviously the solid #2 choice. My fear was that Brady looked horrible and Belichick turned Can Newton back five years and showed the success was more on his coaching than any individual player or players. This season doesn't show that Belichick is a crappy coach or any crazy thing like that, but if does show he isn't an absolute miracle worker who can win Super Bowls with D-level rosters.

So after watching the top 5 QB's play.
And doing some nerdy sports stuff.
Justin Fields looks like the real deal.
They will all play in the NFL next season.

Appreciate the full thought behind yr post.

Obv, it is mathematically possible for any team to up its offer to have so much on the table it can't be turned down.... but as a practical matter, I say Sewell's production exceeds any realistic return, even allowing for some premium of overpay. I wanted Bechton last yr, we got him, now lets build a real wall.

Happy to hear you bullish on our GM, I am not familiar enough to vote yea or nay as to if he is that good. Until he demonstrates otherwise, I am happy to take your word for it while using the eye test.
IMO the only GM who was 1,111% fully worthy of all hoopla and praise was the late great Bill Walsh.
The rest line up after that, and it is a big drop.

Bottom line Bern...the Jets are in a tremendous position to be in at #2. They for all intents and purposes control the draft and how it will play out.

Fields having such a huge game made our pick that much more attractive. Wilson declared officially today that he's coming out tho it was expected. And you have Sewell there as well.

Joe D comes from the Ozzie Newsome tree as well as the Howie Roseman one and those are some pretty nice trees to come from. So yeah I trust whatever it is Douglass does. We actually have a guy who knows what he's doing. I'm leaning as I said right this very moment to staying a #2 and taking Sewell.

However if Fields has a good game vs Alabama, I'd start to become really tempted to take him. Fields has a little Cam vibe too him and early to mid career Cam was a huge weapon. Or do we trade down and get a haul? Man oh man Douglass has some amazing decisions to have to make. It might come down to who we pick as our next head coach and whether or not he thinks Sam can be rehabilitated or if he wants a Fields or Wilson.

Fascinating offseason upcoming. Bottom line tho as I said....Jets control the draft and seeing we have someone competent finally running the team in Douglas, I'm stoked about that.

Jets are in a good spot. Imo, if Houston can win it strengthens their position . . . if they potentially want to move back one spot and still get Sewell.

Going to be a crazy Sunday and hoping for the end of Gettleman on Monday.

Fields played a great game.

I still don’t want Fields at 2.

Ideally I want to trade down for a haul or take Sewell, but I’d still be positive about a Wilson pick and trading Darnold off for a 2nd.

Easy to forget, but a lot of people assumed Belichek was going to turn back the clock on Cam and turn him into an absolute beast again and cruise to another division win. Belichek the genius proves he was a master again by bringing in an MVP caliber QB for penny’s on the dollar.

Obviously, that wasn’t the case.

Nah, after that game, Fields showed a lot beyond just playing a great game. At this point, he's the clear cut pick at #2. If he follows that up with a similar or same performance against Alabama, it'll basically be a lock.
