I don't know what the timelines look like but I'd love it if we could find a coach before making the final decision on a QB. If you find a coach you really like that believes he can turn Darnold around, then it makes your decision easier. I assume most coaches would rather have the opportunity to have their say in a new QB, but still, some offensively-oriented coach who is a fan of short and intermediate routes might think Darnold has what it takes to succeed in his offense.
I’m pretty sure that’s exactly the timeline that things will happen in. If a coach thinks he can work with darnold that needs to be his choice.

With the main prize off the board, I don't want the team to take a QB just to take a QB. Sam is still absurdly young, has played his career under an absurdly bad coach, and with pretty much no line and no weapons. I'd either use the #2 to further invest in the line in Sewell (this is also partly due to durability concerns with Becton), or trade down, draft someone like DeVonta Smith, and pick up another 1st rounder+. You could then use the other two first rounders to pick up a G for the O-Line and maybe an EDGE or a CB (depending on where the picks are and who ends up falling). I'd be thrilled to walk out of the first round with Smith, Surtain, and Trey Smith (plus another pick or two on Day 2). I would have been MORE thrilled to walk out of the first round with Lawrence, but that ship has sailed, and I worry that the "QB or bust" mindset could end up with the team failing to maximize their value. Darnold could be rehabbed. You don't bother when Lawrence is the option, but since he's not, I'm more inclined to give him a good coach and weapons out the wazoo and see what happens.
Keep Sam. Trade down. Get o-line help and some good receivers. And for the love of god fire Gase and get someone who knows wtf he’s doing.

I guess you have to trust your scouts. If they think Zach Wilson is the next Aaron Rodgers then you make the pick. If they like, but don’t love him then move down if you get a great offer otherwise take Sewell and build around Darnold. Your GM and hopefully your intelligent new coach can decide and come to a consensus.

I have a feeling Daboll from Buffalo is the guy. Saban and Belichek ties. Brady is probably the top option but I think he’ll get a better offer - Jax with Lawrence or Houston with Watson. AFC East likes to hire from within.

Miami via the Texans now have the 3rd pick. That is brutal for Houston.

maybe just draft Sewell ans trade for Watson after he wants out.

in all seriousness Miami could end up with Sewell using the pick they got from Tunsil. Amazing

Tunsil is a very nice player, but Miami bent them over. Houston thought they were competing every year like Seattle and needed one more piece. Instead, they are a dumpster fire.

It’s just amazing to me how much they gave up for Tunsil and how little they got for Hopkins. Buy high and sell low.

theyre in such trouble. No picks. Watt wants out. Figure Watson is next.

Big Week 17 for the NFC East!

1pm - Dallas 6-9 at Giants 5-10. backup QB Danny Dalton matches up against one read Daniel Jones

Sunday Night Flex - Eagles 4-10-1 vs Washington 6-9. Backup Jalen Hurts matches up against a player to be named later . . . or after every quarter

Jones looks lost. He's not getting much help but if he can't run it makes him a very poor option.

Still I said the Giants needed to go 2-2 to secure a birth, so now it's 1-3 with help.

Giants need an Edge Rusher and to continue to work on that O-Line. I think Hernandez is gone after this year, the whole rotation screams to me that Judge isn't a fan of his. If that's the case Hernandez/Tate/Shepard/Engram should all be dealt or in Tate's case released.

Use analytics and sign a tall UFA WR who won't break the bank. I'd love to sign TY Hilton who has been my favorite WR in the NFL for years but he's not tall and might still be expensive so I don't think it's a match.

I think Slayton has another gear. He's young. From that At Home Video Giants.com posted, he was eating junk food regularly. He needs to go full Gary Roberts with his diet and training.

Concentrate on Edge Rusher's/O-Line/WR in the draft. They seemed to do well with Lemieux (who wears #66 lol) and Peart. This is why you get rid of Engram/Shepard/Hernandez and turn those into mid round picks that will help the support positions.

Next year will be Jones's last chance. Same story and he's going the way of Dave Brown/Kent Graham/Danny Kannel.

I've had a day to digest what occurred in yesterdays LOL win over Cleveland. Here's the worst thing about yesterday's win. And if I wasn't a Jet fan for almost 50 years and paranoid as all hell from all the years of suffering and dumb decisions by the front office, I probably wouldn't even have this thought running thru my head and that is:

I pray to whatever god that there is that is merciful to Jet fans young and old, that these last two horseshit wins are not going to influence the Johnsons to keep Gase for another season.

Some of you may "poo poo" what I'm saying and "no worries Max...it will never happen"...yada yada yada. Well this is the Jets we are talking about and I don't put nothing past these dweebs in the FO. And if they beat the Patriots which is quite possible and end year on 3 game winning streak, it's going to make it worse.

I'm telling ya...this paranoia I have is real. And yes as I said I'm jaded from all these years of BS going on here but if they kept Gase who just might be the worst coach not just in NFL history but in all of sports history, I will seriously have to think about changing alliances and I might start to become a Jaguars fan as keeping Gase would likely be a bridge too far for this Jet fan to continue supporting this cursed franchise.

Please Joe D, I know you read this board hoss and I know you have a friendship with Gase from way back but I also know you want to bring your own guy in. You need to talk to the Johnsons TODAY and tell them not too get snowed by all this "winning" and nip this shit in the bud now so that the day after the Patriots game on Black Monday, Gase is told his services are no longer required.

Thanks in advance Joe cause by doing this, you'll make millions of paranoid Jet fans feel a hell of alot better heading into the offseason....cheers!

This isn't saying much but Jones might have been our best player yesterday. He was far down the list of our problem.

Now that we have effed ups the generational QB, let's not screw up the generational OT selection, Sewell.
Thankfully we can't do worse than 2OA.

Had we won first overall, could have offered Darnold + SEA 2021 1st + NYJ 2022 1st unprotected to Jacksonville for 2021 2OA and couple of future 2nds.

The issue is not throwing Darnold under the bus or not; the issue is adding signif dif makers esp on OL. I would have risked Sewell to take Lawrence but not now.

Darnold is fine 'enough', he is adequate to good/+. Possibly he can excel if there is enough time to throw, and a better supporting cast would help. We effed up and obv should have taken Allen with that pick, as he looks like the return of John Elway. Instead we went with the safe consensus and Bills look good this year.

That's what can happen when those in charge do not consider bern when he says think outside the box.

I can live with Darnold who may/may not grow to spectacular but seems with enough reasonable support to be solid. Use draft resources to get high end. After Sewell, think higher impact players.

One alternate scenario:
IF 29 yr old Garapolo (sp?) is no longer a fit in SF [think he has a short term deal], then...
something around
Darnold
for
SF 2021 (projected 14OA) + OT Mike McGlinchey + Garap.

that gives Niners a younger, stable building block likely firming up signal caller for 5 or so years.

Jets get an immediate 6'8" OT who would, with Sewell and Beckton, create serious protection. Add to that a value/impact 1st and an x factor in JG.

Ok, back to the real world.

MUST draft Sewell.
bad enough the fish [mammals, you Costanza purists] had Richmond Webb for years.

Sewell is another Tony Munoz.

Don't eff this up.

trading down here is not a smart option
there is no level of OL line help that could be as much impact, barring injury, as Sewell guarantees.

And we can't have him going to Miami

we need lot of help roster wide and I am open to discussing options but not passing up sewell

Totally w/ya on gase gone.

Silver lining in this somewhat is that the Bengals won. They are now 4-10-1 and in the 6th slot. They want Sewell as their OL is brutal. Maybe there is a trade option for interest in Sewell. They don't need a QB. Houston's pick to Miami is at 4. I wouldn't mind if Miami wants to move to get him at #2 and get their 2 1sts.

I really think Douglass is going to have a lot of trade options for #2 and some favorable trade options for the Jets in this draft to get another #1 if Miami really wants to move up, but I can see them just taking one of the WRs at the top of the draft

Bengals will not sniff Sewell, Dolphins want him too badly.
But we need Sewell more than any package that can be offered, THAT truth has to be recognized quickly.

We have good draft capital incl from moving Jamal Adams, which is a factor for later on. High up, take Sewell AINEC.

Jets just have to hold their nose and take Zach or Justin, right? Fair enough if their scouts hate both of them, but you can really mess up by getting too cute.
Nope.
Sewell, we need to be married to.
Should have gone w/Allen over Darnold but what's done is done.
Don't further eff it up by not taking best talent, most signif impact guy available.
Sewell is a no brainer here.

Underline is the best option here, but remember pls...
Add the fixture in Sewell
Sewell + Bechton at min = signif protection add = great improvement
THEN
have option to move Darnold with his stock upgraded if we want, which means moving him later = more, and we can potentially avoid larger contract then which means mo $ for rest of the roster.

MUST draft Sewell.

I'm not overly concerned with any other team than the Jets at the moment. They lack so much talent that it's about improving them more than their divisional rival picking up someone they want. If Miami wants him that bad, the Jets have the ability to demand everything from them. Houston plays Tennessee this weekend. Henry might run for 300 against that run defense. Miami will have #3 and are not guaranteed to win their game against Buffalo (locked into the 3 seed, could get the #2 seed with a W). You could be looking at them having a mid 1st and a mid 2nd round pick. If their 1st is higher than Seattle's 1st, I would look at something like this:

2nd OV + Seattle 1st for #3 overall, Miami 1st, and Miami 2nd or Houston 2nd.

This would give the Jets 3 1sts, two 2nds and 2 3rds. Moves down 1 pick at the top, picks up a couple spots in the 1st round as Seattle most likely gets to the divisional round at minimum, and you get a pick in the mid-50s or at the top of the 2nd. 3rd pick you could get your WR with Smith or Chase. Smith might be the highest riser in the draft and I know guys like Ruggs and Jeudy from Alabama have struggled this season, but Smith is a polished receiver. Chase has everything too.

We'd be looking at a draft with 8 picks in the top 100, and depending on the compensation picks at the end of the 3rd round, could have 9 with their 4th being at the top. The infusion of talent from those picks alone could change the franchise over the next 6-7 years.

Hoping for a new GM and Judge takes a page from the Pats (and others) draft playbook to trade back.

Not to mention, go back to the 4-3 which the team won Super Bowls with. My gosh, who changes to a 3-4 and doesn’t bother with any pass rushers at OLB? Dave Gettleman!!!!

But dumb Dave did have pass rushers as Okwara has 9.0 in Detroit while JPP has 9.5 in Tampa. JPP’s contract was traded for picks which he used for DE BJ Hill and QB Lauletta. He then trades more picks for Williams, franchises him and Hill goes to backup. Meanwhile, Lauletta gets cut after being arrested. Good money management though, the savings after dead money for JPP went to OBJ yet he traded him months after signing him so doubled down on dead money and less talent. Oh i forgot, he threw out Vernon too.

Hey Jets fans, we know your roster lacks some talent but wondering how did our defensive Captain Alec Ogletree looked on your practice squad this year? At least he got a job unlike the Giants two starting safeties from last season who are out of football.

LGR!!!!

if Sewell is the real deal, my gosh what an OT tandem the Jets have. The roster won’t be finished in an offseason but imagine the Jets adding a huge Guard down the road. Opponents will forced to bring more to help pressure the QB.

I still like Darnold and do wish the Giants had drafted him. He’s a bit mistake prone like he was at USC but many QB’s are these days.

Do the Giants really want to pull a page out of the Jets playbook by firing the GM and forcing the new GM to keep the current coach?

the Jets should keep Gase too.

Hoping the next Giants GM is Nick Caserio.

As much as I do not like the job Gettleman has done..I HATE the idea of bringing in a new GM without his guy at HC. It just sets up for potential disaster. Then again, I think Judge is the guy, so they may have to just let Judge play a role in picking the GM.

I think the Giants playing a "meaningful" Week 17 game ensures Mr. Kick Ass Hog Mollies is back for one more year.

The odds are not in their favor to be playing in two weeks, not because they can't handle Dallas, but because they need help and Philly is awful, but if they make the playoffs no matter how bad that entire division is, it's very unlikely success or in this case "success" wink wink nudge nudge roll eyes + playoff revenue leads to a firing.

The only times I can think of when teams that made the playoffs or were performing well dumped their coaches were of course the Yankees with Buck Showalter>Joe Torre>Joe Girardi>Aaron Boone (and you can go back before I was born to Billy Martin for Bob Lemon) and the Devils anytime Lou's Spider Sense tingled and they got ride of Julian and Constantine.

.

at 5-10 there is no way he should be back. This is a directionless build. There is absolutely no rhyme or reason behind this roster or his cap management.

Four starting defenders from last season aren’t even in the NFL today while the two best Defensive linemen, Williams and Tomlinson, are free agents!!!! The linebackers aren’t stable with zero pass rushers. It’s ridiculous. Meanwhile, the entire current backfield and receivers could be replaced along with several on the OL.

Washington Football Team releases QB Dwayne Haskins

Hey Jets fans. Somebody needs a QB

I wonder where Stephen A Smith and company is to call out the Washington Football team for what they accused the Giants of being.

edit -

Stephen A Smith
@stephenasmith

Even on vacation I need to step out and say this: I was totally WRONG about Dwayne Haskins. Thinking the
@Giants were foolish to pass up on him in favor of Daniel Jones, I look like a damn fool. You know how bad you have to be as a player — and person — to be a 1st-round pick...

The Giants operate very differently. Judge will have a major say in the GM and the team will defer quite a bit to him and how his relationship is with Gettleman and/or other candidates.
