I mean you can come up with reasons why the Giants played close games till the cows come home.

so yesterday was competitive? Most of the Cowboys OL was out and they lost their QB.
They lost their QB late and yes it was competitive, we didn't have our best player. There's nowhere in the definition of competitive where it says that a team that you're playing must be 100% healthy or even be good. The Giants as is are a bad 0-5 football team, not sure why you have to make up ways why they suck even worse than they do. They are what they are, a bad football team that competes most games but isn't good enough to win. They AREN'T a football team that isn't good enough to win and ISN'T competitive like the Jets. Sure being better than the Jets isn't much of a silver lining. But you're trying really hard to make a really bad football team look even worse than they are. It's just not based in reality.
After watching Trevor Lawrence on Saturday nite and than my Jets fall to 0-5 yesterday, I'm more convinced than ever Lawrence is staying in school....lol
What is your definition of competitive? The Giants are 0-5 with point differential of -52. The only teams with a worse point differential are washington (-53) and the Jets (-86). The Giants are 3-2 ATS so they don't suck as much as bookmakers think but I think that's the best you can do. Daniel Jones threw 2 TDs in the opener and none since. What happened to the offense? Losing Saquon sucks to be sure but the rushing attack seems to be improved the last 3 games. They lost their QB late and yes it was competitive, we didn't have our best player. Well in 5 games, a game like the Niners game can really swing things and their point differential sucks so bad because they're 0-5. They're competitive in most losses. Even the Steelers game, if you watched it. Only game they weren't competitive in was the Niners game.
I'm in agreement with you. I don't need to look at the stats. The Giants from the eyeball test despite being 0-5, if it's possible are a fairly decent 0-5. The Jets on the other hand are a horrible 0-5.
Matter of fact I'll go as far as too say if hypothetically the Jets and Giants would play each other each week the rest of the season besides us never wanting to watch football ever again...lol, the Giants would beat the Jets 9 of the 11 times they played. I know that's not saying alot but it illustrates the point that the Giants as bad as they are, are a shit ton better than that Jets which also shows how horrific that they are.
What an abominable season that this has been.....double triple ARGGGGGGGGG!!!
I still think Darnold is good. I wanted the Giants to draft him rather coddle Eli while drafting Barkley which screwed this whole team up.
Well this week is where the rubber meets the road IMO. Are their opponents really so tough? The 49ers just got trounced by the dolphins who had only beaten the Jaguars before that. The NFC East as a whole have 4 wins in 20 games.Combined record of Giants opponents after 5 games
2019: 12-13
2020: 16-8
They've played really tough opponents this season. Also, over half of their point differential is from one game.

A bunch of friends and I had a draft party the night of the '18 draft. I was only Jet fan but a few were Giants fans and there were a bunch of Eagle fans seeing I live down here in Eagle country. Anyways, I recall distinctly my Giant fan buddies saying they were either getting Mayfield or Darnold. And either one they would have been thrilled with.
So after Baker gets somewhat surprisingly taken by the Browns, my buddies were pumped up as they knew they were now getting Sam. I was pissed cause I knew that meant the Jets were likely either taking Josh Rosen or Josh Allen as that's why the Jets made that deal with the Colts to insure they got the best QB left over.
So when Gmen took Barkley, the moans and groans from my Giant fan friends was loud and there was a lot of cursing at Gettleman. I on the other hand was stoked...couldn't believe what good fortune we had gotten as Darnold fell into our laps.
I wish I could go back to that day as that was the last time I have felt any elation at all at being a Jet fan as it's been nothing but heartache and heartbreak ever since.
PS: I agree with you...Sam is very talented. He just won't be able to show it here unless Jets make a commitment to pay him, Lawrence stays in school and no one offers JD the motherload for the #1 overall. Lots of things still in play. We'll know a hell of alot more at end of season. Still fun to speculate tho.
The Jets are the exception that proves the rule."Looking competitive" means nothing to me. The NFL is designed for parity. You're not going to get blown out of the water on a weekly basis. Garbage teams lose close games all the time.
The Giants cannot make plays when they need to. They blew a 17-3 lead and gave up 37 points to another bad team also riddled with injuries.

did it occur to you the opponents records are better due to the Giants record? This whoa is me Beningo take is pretty funny. Take off the Gase blinders and look at the rosters. Where is either team any better than the other?
The Giants had two wins at this point last season, one against 2-3 Tampa Bay (which they won because TB missed a game-winning 34 yard field goal) and one against 0-5 Washington.
Their point differential in the games they lost was -50 in three games (split into -18, -14, and -18). This season their point differential is -52 in 5 games with -27 of those points coming from one game.
The two situations are clearly different, and the fact that they were 2-3 last season vs. 0-5 this season is the only thing you can hold on to.

whatever that means.
Go break down the rosters and ask yourself who is better.
Start at QB and work your way throughout the roster . . . pref with the Beningo glasses off.
That is Gettleman's fault. Everyone agrees he has to be fired.
