I'm personally "meh" on that trade in hindsight, but it's frustrating to have a GM pour so much draft capital into the interior of the DL when we have so many other needs.

We have two other needs on defense, sure. But if the offense was playing as well as last year minus the fumbles, and the defense was playing like it has been this year we'd have won a couple of more games and would be running away with this division.

I was thinking Bradberry, but either way he's our best pass rusher and he comes from the middle which is a pain in the ass for a QB.
LW is playing under the franchise tag and so is one of the highest paid DTs in the league. If you sign him long term what do you think that contract will look like? If you don't sign him long term what was the point of the franchise tag?

Contracts are way beyond my pay grade but I'm in favor of keeping talent.

Martinez and Bradberry have clearly been better, IMO. LW also plays a position we have depth at, whereas Martinez and Bradberry are pretty much it at their respective positions.

LW was a superfluous addition. Much like a RB at #2 in the draft when the team needed help everywhere else. We already had BJ Hill as a solid player. Now LW keeps Hill on the bench. I would rather roll with Hill and find a rotational player to pair with him than pay LW.

The moves made no sense.

You also don't have the option of letting talent go when you don't have enough of it as is.

Again. We already have BJ Hill. We have to pay either LW or Tomlinson. I'm paying Tomlinson since I think we can get him for cheaper and I also think he's an excellent player. How much money do you want to spend on interior DL???

Any other team in NFL history in any year in NFL history would have fired Gase yesterday and yet due to the way the Jets heirarchy is and due to Douglass being overly loyal to Gase for helping him get his job, Adam f'n Gase will be on the sidelines calling plays next Sunday vs the Raiders.

Now obviously Gase should have been shit canned a month or so ago but the fact that after the absolute abysmal crap game to put the Jets 0-11 and the clown show of a press conference afterwards, 99.99999 % of coaches would have been given his walking papers. Not the Jets tho....Gase continues on as if nothing happened.

It's just so sad at what an embarrassment this franchise has become. Even in the Richie Kotite era, I never felt this sick to my stomach about this team....ugggggggggggggggg....:help:

Not only do I want Gase to finish the season.
I want a post season press conference.

Woody comes back.
Gives Gase a vote of confidence.
Lawrence sez get stuffedfirst
Jets pick a CB first

C'mon. Its not beyond reason.

That's a pretty vivid imagination you got going on....funny as well.

Crazy thing is, it really isn't as far fetched as one would think...lol

I agree. I'll give Gettleman credit for the Martinez and Bradberry signings, but the Williams trade was bad at the time, neutral in retrospect. Franchise tagging him was also a head-scratcher. He also has two RTP penalties this year that came in absolutely back-breaking situations. And they weren't borderline penalties, either. They were mind-numbingly stupid penalties.

With all that being said, he has played well this season. I don't think he justifies the franchise tag salary he's getting, but an argument could be made that the 3rd and 5th (I think?) we gave up to get him was not a terrible investment in a vacuum (positional depth notwithstanding).

I was expecting between 4 and 6 wins because the team is and was a f***ing dumpster fire. This disaster of a roster is exactly as I expected it would be. I predicted 5 wins.

Please feel free to be accepting of mediocrity and downright garbage, though. That's on you.

A significant portion of the league is terrible. It’s the first week of December and 40% of the teams are playing .364 ball or worse.

Gettleman has been here only three years and on his second coach. Almost all his free agents have been misses, he clearly botched the salary cap each of his three years along with a directionless roster building strategy. Now he’s faced possibly having to pay Williams and flexing Barkley’s 5th year option for a team which is 3 games under .500 and I believe the Giants have one win against a starter in Carson Wentz. They played backup QB’s vs Chicago, SF, Wash (2) , Dallas and Cincy while Washington went for a 2 point conversion.

Gettleman’s only saving grace is if he wins in December as i see it. The residual from a laundry list of mistakes still looms despite residing in a Division where .364 ball is good enough for 1st place.

the issue IMO was Gettleman who forced a 3-4 defense when the Giants had 4-3 personnel. He moves out a JPP, who did have a questionable attitude and a hefty contract, only to triple down on dead money after adding the JPP dead money by resigning and almost immediately trading OBJ, keeping Eli to ride the bench and then having to pay Williams franchise money.

Add in all of the above and what does it equate to? Paying Williams a fortune to stay or letting him walk? Wouldn’t it have been easier and less costly to keep JPP and a 4-3 defense? Then the Giants wouldn’t have needed a Dexter Lawrence and rotated in and out an entire defensive line besides Tomlinson. If you’re going to force full scale changes based on scheme you need a ton of draft picks and not a HB while thinking “hey, i can make all these changes and still win with an aging QB who hasn’t won for years” . . . never mind the whole OL needed to be rebuilt.

Hope the Giants have moved forward and beyond the past to win in December when it really counts.

There wouldn’t be a point. Maybe they’ll let Williams walk, put Hill at DE and go pass rusher with their #1 pick. Hmmm, maybe it would have been easier to just keep JPP and not force wholesale changes and burn through money and years.

Regardless, it’s December so go win.

The jets heirarchy is likely a big reason gase is still HC, however I'd imagine that the first thing that happens this offseason is Gase being fired, and then Douglass getting that changed. He was given a 6 year deal, and he's likely going to want to select his own head coach.

I think Douglass is a pragmatist in that he might have a good relationship with Gase personally but lets not mistake that for anything more than that. I don't think he's currently lobbying for Gase to keep his job, anymore than he's simply watching the product on the field and evaluating who needs to stay and go from a player standpoint.

Lawrence is a franchise changer, and the jets have some talent at a couple of the premium positions and alot of draft capital to increase that.

Jets could improve dramatically. Have to hit on the coach while it should be a layup to hit on this QB. (just don’t win)

The jags have a good chance to win vs the bears in week 16. The only possible win for the jets would be the pats on week 17. I can easily seeing BB giving up on the game just to keep lawrence out of the division.

don’t beat the Raiders b/c too would be wary of BB in Week 17 lol.

BB understands that it doesn't matter who the jets draft.

I think BB has far more respect for Douglass than he has for any other GM since he took over with the pats. If the jets get Lawrence plus a Douglass selected HC + talented oc/dc/st, I think the jets have a bright future. This season feels very much like the rangers in '18/19, the pain is real, but in the NFL more than any other, you have to bottom out to get good. Douglass has already shown he's a good talent evaluator who doesn't overspend in free agency, and will build through the draft.

I've said this since the season began, despite many thinking he'd be gone by last week's bye week if things went south here, Gase was here to stay till the season ended no matter what happened this season. Douglass just wasn't or isn't going to fire the guy or ask permission from the Johnson's to fire the guy, who got him the GM gig here and all the financial security he know has for his family for the rest of his life.

At end of season, he's likely going to go to Gase and simply say that he knows what needs to happen as much as he appreciates what Gase has done for him. But 0-16...1-15 years are just not acceptable.

Heck, Gase likely will be relieved that he's being fired as all this abuse he is taking cannot be making his life all to pleasant.

You are right in that if they get Lawrence with all the draft capital they have, they potentially could be relevant in a few years especially because Douglass is a very good talent evaluator and has been since his days with the Ravens and Eagles where he played big roles behind the scenes in both teams SB wins.

We'll see how it plays out. I'm concerned...check that...very concerned that we will even end up with the #1 pick seeing the Jags own the tie breaker on us and I'm not convinced the Jags are winning another game this year whereas the Jets could make some noise even this week vs a shaky Raider team, a Browns team and a Patriots team.

It's going to take some divine intervention for the Jets to actually go 0-16 and this team over the years rarely ever gets any kind of love from the football gods. Why should this year be any different? We'll see.

Id agree with you the lack of love by football gods, but the jets have not been close with Darnold starting, and the jags have been losing by less than 7 the past few games, with a very winnable bears on the schedule.

NYJ - Raiders, oakland just came off a huge loss to the falcons, they should walk over the jets.
NYJ - Rams . This one wont even be close, rams are the better team by far in all three stages, and the rams are playing for the playoffs.
NYJ - Browns - Again just a better team who's pushing for the wildcard spot, as the Steelers have the division.
NYJ - Pats . This is the one game i think the jets could lose, week 17, and if the jags have 1 loss BB might just tank it, increase their own draft standing and hurt the jets at the same time.

Jags - Vikings - Could be a very close game, Vikings have been up and down.
Jags - Titans - L for the jags, a very good team, pushing for the playoffs.
Jags - Bears - Very winnable game for the Jags, Bears are bad.
Jags - Colts - Depending on the playoff positions, this could be another win for the jags, Colts could have no incentive to play starters if they've clinched the wild card / playoffs.
