It matters if the refs don't blow the play dead, he's in the middle of the field with the clock running on the ground, the touch happens, play is over, timeout is called.

OK...wasn't aware of that. Thought a player or a coach could call TO anytime he wanted too whether a player was touched or not.

He clearly gives himself up as a receiver on the ground, so the whistle would have come soon after the touch or not to end the play, just not sure if it would have been with 1 second left or no time left.

Tess, Booger and Jason Witten (briefly) were so terrible and yet somehow I'm not sure the new MNF crew is that much better.

Call me crazy but I gotta disagree with you here as I like this new MNF crew. Steve Levy I find very appealing to listen too in the Frank Gifford role. I am a bit biased as I liked him alot when he did hockey when ESPN had it. Brian Griese is pretty good at analyzing things and Louis Riddick is pretty good as well.

I mean they aren't Gifford, Meredith or Cosell obviously but they are a ton better than the Tess,Booger and Witten trio. Maybe that's why I like them especially Levy because Tess just might have been the most annoying PBP announcer I've ever heard.

Anyways, looks like we'll agree to disagree on this one.

On another note, let's speculate on something. Let's say TL decides to forego entering NFL draft to avoid the Paper Planes. Does anyone think they won't be the overall favorite to land the first pick again next season?

There are SOOO many things wrong with this team right now that I don't see any fixes that will make them much better next season.

In that unlikely scenario, the Jets take Fields. If they wind up with the #1 pick again they draft Trevor Lawrence then trade him to Jacksonville, or maybe Washington.

If they draft well, use the 90+ m of cap space and hire a good coaching staff, they won’t finish worst again.

You could actually see some of the receiver talent on the team last night. Mims looks like a guy that is going to be a very good player. He needs more time and more targets.

It really makes me think that the roster overall isn't too far away, especially during the 1st half. But, after halftime, and the opposing coach makes adjustments, the Jets have no answers. That's on the coaching staff. The last two drives were a total of 4 plays. Yes, Flacco messed up that deep pass, but the final drive was just disastrous play calling. A real coach would be able to do something and secure a win.

I'm glad they lost because they are going nowhere this season, but I don't think this one is on the players. The coaching staff has let these guys down game after game. Hopefully Douglass is seeing what everyone else is.

With Mims, Perriman, and Crowder, they could actually move the ball a bit if they could give the QB time to throw. The offensive line is a train wreck. The tight ends have all been awful. Perine and Gore (the latter in particular) are meh, but not horrible. Gore will be gone of course. So, they really need to add at least one more WR, a TE, and do something about the line. Becton is fantastic but can't stay healthy so far.

Defense is different, Davis looks good, Williams is one you keep. Zuniga, who knows. Maye is pretty good. There are some other guys, particularly on the DL and at LB that are fine depth/rotational guys, but obviously there is A LOT that needs to be added to the defense. Gregg Williams has not been able to scheme away the deficiencies this year.

Mann is fine and both kickers have done well this year. The coverage units have been an abomination.

There's no quick fix to make this a winning team, but between the draft picks, cap space, and change in coaching staff--the resources and opportunities are there to get back to the 5-6 win level, for sure. I honestly think they could get there even if they kept Darnold. It's a matter of executing a plan, and while I don't really have faith they can do it, it is possible.

So, they’ll finish worst again. I know JD is t McCagnan (it would be difficult to be that awful) but I have zero trust in this org to draft well and make smart signings or hire the right coaches

Well looking at JD's one draft, Mims looks very good, Becton looks stellar, and Davis has looked very promising. You gotta be happy with those picks at the moment. Zuniga, impossible to say. Perine has been a bit hard to peg, given that the offensive line is mid-major NCAA quality and Gase inexplicably wants to stick with Gore. Mann has shown promise, we don't know on Bryce Hall, and Clark is interesting. Morgan still seems like an awful pick to me but who knows, he's obviously a project.

I can't say I "have faith" that they'll nail the draft, but I do like the way JD's first draft unfolded, which does give me some hope.

true, JD's picks have already had more returns thatn 90% of Macc's picks over the years. The hard part will be getting the coach. Because unlike college players, a good coaching prospect needs to want to come to the Jets and who in their right mind would want to? After this debacle we'll be scraping the bargain bin of coaching candidates.

For Lawrence yo have to sell him on having 19 picks in the next two years, a handful of good players like Becton, Mims, Perine, Davis, etc., lots of cap space (and owners who, while they suck, will spend), that you have a vision for the future, that NY is a huge marketing tool which Lawrence is I'm sure aware of, etc. But MOST important, you need to have a young, highly-regarded, offensively-minded coach that brings some excitement. Without the coach, the rest becomes a much harder sell. I have no idea who the coach is, but you gotta find someone like that.

And then for the coach, it's the same sell, plus also that Douglas is loyal and will have your back (the one area where not firing Gase I think provides an advantage), and that theoretically you get to build your team around a franchise QB in Lawrence, or maybe Fields if you have to. Again, tough sell, but I do think it's doable. I'm not 100% on Douglas but I think he's pretty savvy.

And if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle. :sarcasm:

...but seriously, it's true that a teams prospects can change in the NFL with one good off season. Just have to hope JD is willing to sacrifice Gase even though he helped him get the position of GM.

Yeah I'm not going to blame you and @KirkAlbuquerque if you have no faith at all int he team.

I just think if Lawrence hypothetically stayed in school, I think the odds of #1 again wouldn't be great.

If Douglas is as smart as he seems, he could work with that. Keeping Darnold, trading the 1st for a haul, building through the draft.

but I understand if you think they're just morons and can't manage that.

I actually really love Joe Douglas and if left to do what he wants without interference from either of the Johnsons then they have a chance to really do something. Again my only fear would be the blind loyalty by Douglas or the Johnsons to Gase past this year.

Gase won’t be here next year, Schefter said it last night on the pregame.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but thank God Woody will be back soon, not that he’s any good, but at least he’s been the owner for some playoff runs.

Chris Johnson could not have been in anymore over his head as an NFL owner since Woody left.

Jones with the best game I’ve seen from him probably

Most safe I’ve seen him be wrt to turnovers. No bad throws or holding onto the ball way too longs
