Am I doing something wrong, or does it have the pre-phase 1 lottery draft order for everyone?
I have the current/correct draft order. Perhaps clear cookies/cache and try again?

Shouldn't be any other settings you need to do aside from pick a team and then some random auto-draft settings.

I haven’t looked into it but if Dallas makes the wcf our Zucc Third rounder will drop quite a few spots vs our first going up a spot
We had to give up our 48th pick to move up 4 spots from 26 to 22 to take Miller. A third rounder moving back a few spots negligible in comparison, even if it is moving up just a single spot. That one spot could be all the difference in whether you get the player you want or not.

So do we root for Dallas to win and gain a slot on our first rounder or to lose so we don’t drop in the third round?
Tough call
I would guess one first round spot move is worth like 10 spots in the third round. Just my gut, though.

Marat Khusnutdinov
I can see the rangers reaching for him with Carolina's pick if they stand pat
Thoughts?
I really like the kid
Only knock on him is his size
Very good 2 way C with speed and always gives max effort
Has skill as well
Or maybe trade for a late 1st and get him there?

I’m high on him. Not sure how much of a point producer he’ll be but... he has serious BOOM potential. Great skater, phenomenal edge work, high end compete level, he is a total puck hound. The ceiling is a 2 way #1C. The floor is career KHL’er. 2 way middle 6 C that all teams need to win is a real possibility.

He’s right at the top of the list for me of guys I like with the CAR pick who I feel have a real chance to be there.

Khusnutdinov
Torgersson
Reichel
Peterka
Grieg
Perreault

These are some of the forwards that I feel will be available in the early 20’s. Maybe there is a F faller like Mercer, Holloway, Gunler, Jarvis or a D faller like Guhle that we like but otherwise I want Khusnutdinov!

Would you rather have your 1st or 3rd round pick climb a spot in the draft? Yeah, I'll take the 1st rounder climbing any day over the 3rd.

Isn't it one spot in the 1st round vs. several spots in the third though?

If Dallas wins, that pick could drop from something like 83rd to 90th.

I would still take the one spot higher in the first round, but it's close.

Three quick thoughts..

I really enjoy what you guys add to the draft conversation and I can see where your coming from with your prospect observations. The big question I have is which one of these kids in the pick 24 range has the attitude, tenacity, or will not be overwhelmed by the NHL game. A prospect's personality can really separate him from the pack. I personally would give up a little talent for that prospect that wont be intimidated.

I think we have another year or two in the rebuild. At least until we free up some $$ Hank's, Staal, and Smith contracts. I dont know who will be available next year in free agency but maybe that is when we can find that #1 or #2 center.

I really hope JG is able to weasel a pick or two in the second round, and of course a 7th rounder to fill our need.

For me it’s about gaining ground with the first.

Having the first as high as possible likely opens up more options than where the third falls. Be it trading up, trading down, or just getting lucky enough to be in the right spot to grab a faller, I’d choose the first.

Didn't realize he was such a great passer.
Right??
Hes really deceptive and creates high quality chances especially for not even a rookie

Granted it was preseason but I think it was the depth that kept him out
They said it was the case
I keep beating the same drum know but I was just frustrated that he didn't make the team
Then when his Hartford stint went to shit then went to the VHL I was pretty damn livid
But things seem to be settling and if hes in the K I can live with that
Hes going to be good
I just wish they'd let him be good

Good defensive play quite often leads to good offensive play. For a forward these days having a 200' game is very important. You can't always be losing your man and you need to be helping out your D and giving them options. Probably more than anything else it's the one thing that has to be drilled into young forwards and it's very much a part of the mental side of the game. You just can't rely on having better skills than the other guy. Another issue for younger forwards is sometimes they need to get stronger--they're still doing that transition from boy to man and it matters in things like winning puck battles in the corners and along the boards. Having skill is a big deal but often it's useless if a player is a defensive liability and always getting knocked on his can. The Rangers went through a lot of growing pains with Kakko last year and he's probably going to need more work--younger forwards like Howden and even Lemieux and Gauthier find themselves on their asses a little bit too much. This is in part why our third and fourth lines were liabilities against Carolina. Some of these guys are still growing up.

What do you guys think of Lafreniere’s skating? Some scouting reports criticize his skating, which is a little disheartening as everyone has already complained about how slow Kakko was in his rookie season. Kinda wish we had Hughes with Laf instead of Kakko. But others say he is a great skater. He only earned a 6 out of 9 from HockeyProspect.com on skating.

Here’s one that says he’s good:
Skating

Lafreniere is a very good skater. He has very good speed, and pairs that with a stride that provides excellent acceleration and power. Lafreniere has a strong lower body, giving him excellent balance and making him tough to knock off the puck. He can fight through checks when carrying the puck and also wins battles along the boards. Lafreniere also has excellent agility and edgework. His ability to change directions allows him to fool defenders in one-on-one situations.

Then this scouting report is pretty harsh on him:

His skating is is very good, he just doesn't have that super top gear and can't go 0-60 in a step like MacKinnon and Kreider. He will never be that fast but not many people are. Skating is more than just speed, which is both super important today and has simultaneously become crazy overrated.

His skating has gotten stronger every year and hes way quicker now than he was at 16. I expect thats a trend that will continue until he fully matures physically. I think we've gotten to the point that he's so strong everywhere else that you almost have to look for a flaw and this just happens to be the one thing that grades behind everything else. Crosby faced the same criticisms before his draft year (which were super silly) and skating was tagged as a weakness for Tavares as well. He's a better skater at this age than Tavares was (and JT has improved significantly here.) Lafreniere varies his tempo so well and always does so with a purpose, that to me is harder to deal with than pure speed (unless you're MacK and you have that shiftiness and the hands to go along with your feet. That shit is terrifying for a defender.) Think of it like a baseball pitcher, if there is a guy who is throwing 98 mph every pitch it's impressive, but you'd have a much tougher time hitting a guy who sits at 93 and backs it up with a really good change up.

6/9 still grades out as good for HP. They're optimistic about his ability to improve here too.

It’s not close.
You take the better 1st

Currently, CapFriendly has the Rangers (Carolina) 1st round pick at 23, and the Dallas Stars pick at 24. Looking at the regular season standings, the Stars have 82 points and the Hurricanes have 81. Did CapFriendly miss something or do we already own the 23rd pick in the draft, and the Dallas pick is at 24?

The draft order is determined by Points percentage and Carolina had a better one than Dallas.

That pick currently sits at 24 and can be as high as 21 (If Dallas, Vancouver and NYI advance to the CF)
