No idea if they will or won't, but think I am going to remember this one. Just in case of the need to call you out on it.

The last two times they went an entire draft without taking a European were 2005 and 1988, so on the one hand, I feel pretty safe. On the other hand, they ARE kind of due.

Schenider to the Leafs seems like a lock.

Right handed, Defense first, Physically mature, close to ready. Picking for need is dumb but with the position they're in, they kind of have to.

Its going to be really hard to screw up the Carolina pick if they get it. I anticipate that the players I don't want will be gone by the time that pick comes up and there are a ton of "lesser" names that will turn out to be better players than a bunch of guys who are commonly ranked 15-31.

McKenzie's list has him outside of the 1st round.

Doesn't mean he won't go in the 1st, but its a realistic possibility.
It's funny. I was just thinking that about Schenider. Seems like the perfect match.

If it looks like Mysak is dropping, then he falls into the category of players that I would take a chance on by trading down with the Carolina pick and picking up maybe a second rounder with. Depending on who else is available, of course.

Wouldn't really upset me if they just stuck where they were and took him. He's a good player.

Agreed. I have a hard time seeing him slide out of the first round. But if one could gamble and trade back and still get him, that is even better.

Should go in the 2nd.

If hes there for us in the 3rd Im taking him and running

There seems to be no agreement on him. I've seen him ranked all over the place - from 13th best player in the entire draft (Black Book) to well into the 180's-190's. I've seen him mocked anywhere from the 2nd round to the 6th round.

Wow, you and I are way off in our analysis of him. Not at all saying that I am right and you are wrong, Funny how people can view the same facts and see something else.

Robins isn't big but he's not really small either. He's a player that does everything well. I would absolutely take him in the 3rd--I'm just wondering if a case could be made to take him with the Carolina pick in the first. Keeping in mind that someone like Justin Williams was a 1st rounder but never screamed to me 1st liner but when I think of him I think 'winner' because basically he's not great at anything but good at everything but has now the well earned reputation of stepping up in big moments. Really though I think Greig, Evangelista, Wiesblatt, Heineman are all kind of part of this same conversation of maybe not stellar as far as skills but being those steady guys who always compete, play smart and can step up in the right moment.

I actually see Robins as pretty solid for the 2nd--keeping in mind that guys like Marchand and Gallagher aren't big and weren't 1st rounders either.

Re: Robins

First - Not terribly interested

Second - Possibly interested

Third - definitely interested

I'm not sure any of his checkboxes equals a dynamic offensive presence, but his work ethic, relentlessness and better attributes definitely makes him a candidate for a support role.

I like the kid, there are just guys ahead of him who could play similar support roles, but maybe have a bit more to work with.

I think we can do better than Bourque. Benning is like Joey Keane (another smallish 3rd rd. RD again) all over again only not as good. I don't see any reason to go for a smallish RD unless he's Eamon Powell maybe and he goes well after Benning. We have Fox, DeAngelo and Lundkvist as is and one of them is probably going to move.

I'm alright with Tullio and Sebrango but I like Torgersson and if he's around for either of our 3rd's he's the first guy I'd take and Powell's the second and I'd be willing to move up for him.

Tristen Robins gets taken in the 6th? Clang and Heineman in the 7th?

Yeah definitely off, but I think it could be realistic with some players falling while others rise. I don't think Robins, Clang or Heineman go that low, though.

I was looking at Kakko videos on youtube and saw this:

I don't know what it means, but I thought it was funny.

Are the Rangers the unluckiest lottery winners in history? Both years we need a center and we win the lottery to move into a spot where the consensus is a winger

Swap the two, and you have Hughes and Byfield instead

I'm not complaining, though. Kakko and Lafreniere will be studs and the Rangers are lucky enough to have selected them.

I think we can get away with it if we have guys who are at least legit top 6 players at the center position.

If Zibanejad can stay healthy, and Chytil can stick at center as a second line player, I don't think it will be an issue. But we have to see how it goes.

where does Kaiden Guhle project most realistically? is he a top 4 guy? and where would he rank compared to Miller, Robertson and Jones? (realizing they are different type of dmen)...

we need forward depth more...but reading scouting reports about his defensive prowess and potential shutdown ability, he kind of sounds like the perfect fit/compliment given the right side that we've built...and sounds like he projects to be the type of D man that we are now trying to fantasy trade for to get as partners for trouba & d'angelo

He could become a top 4 defender, but he shows some mental lapses in his game. Will take himself out of plays to make a big hit or join up the rush when he should have stayed back. I'm not sure what that could mean; does he need to slow things down mentally so his body can catch up or does he need more experience and working on his game?

Right now I think he reminds me of someone like Brendan Smith, but he could be a better version if he hones his overall game and works on those mistakes.

Yeah, I like what I have read about Guhle. When I do the draftsim thing, I'm always trying to get one of Lundell, Holloway or Guhle with the Carolina pick. I don't think I've managed to get any of them without trading up, but hopefully they won't all go that early in reality. I expect Lundell will be out of reach unless he falls outside the top 12, but even then we'll probably have to trade someone like Buch to get up there, which I would rather not do. The other two could be more realistic possibilities, I think.

Agreed, but there could be a lot of good options at No. 21-24.

Congrats on Lafreniere. As much as that pains me to say as a Devils fan, the offensive battles between Lafreniere and Hughes will be explosive for at least the next seven years

I look forward to the rivalry making it back to what it was in 2012. Though we came out on top then the Rangers are closer to being back there than my Devils at the moment

Just be warned - its not how fast you finish but how well you did!!
