Buchnevich for a mid first??

i mean Corey Schneider got dealt for 9th overall (Bo Horvat)
I do not believe that unless absolutely necessary (complete cap hell) that Gorton will trade a top-6 forward for simply a pick or prospect. For that to be even entertained, they would have to absolutely LOVE the prospect. Think Zegras from last year. Picking first, I do not sense that that type of love is there. But it makes no difference. Unless the situation is out of control, the pure asset gathering portion of the rebuild is done. If Buchnevich is to be traded, it will be for someone or someones that will help the everyday line up.

Buchnevich was trending to 55 points last year. That is first line territory.

Link it.

I've enjoyed watching clips of him owning current Devil Jack Hughes at the 2018 U18 and potential future Devil Lucas Raymond at the Hlinka.

Kakko and Laf are going to make Hughes pee his pants for the coming future. But yea the goal is at about 3 mins it’s the 7th one.

Buchnevich is a 2nd line player. Maybe 55 points was top line production in 2014, but nowadays it isn't.

Another name to keep an eye on for the Rangers is OHL defenseman Ryan O'Rourke.

His name was batted around a bit earlier in the season, and if the Canes pick is in the mid-20s, I'd think he could still be on the radar for them.

Check your numbers. It is very much top line production. We can debate where on the bell curve it is, but that is top line production. As is Kreider's.

Then take centers out of the equation. First line production even more. Last year, both Buchnevich and Kreider were top 90 in points for forwards. That is top line. Prior year, it was top 80. Again, first line production.

I think the question as to why Lefreniere isn't a center is a valid one. There are a lot of aspects of his game that, in theory, work very similar to that of a center.

I expect we'll see it pop up again leading up to the draft.

The poster's response is like you going to your boss and saying "I'm making 70k a year, a lot of what I do is similar to someone making 90k a year, why am I not making 90k a year?" "Well, the answer to your question of why you're not making 90k a year is the answer to why you're not making 1 million a year".

Talked with a scout recently. He Said the lack of access to viewing games live in Europe Will be a huge Xfactor in future drafts. And This is Probably the #1 NHL scout the past 20 years.
Welp, back to seeing guys like Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Lundqvist get drafted in the 7th round

You wonder what the rangers do if askarov is there with the Carolina pick...

Yeesh, that's a hard one to pass on.

I go back to my philosophy --- talent will always hold value and allow you to trade for other talent.

If he's there, he's arguably the best player on the board. There's 6.5 years between him and Shesterkin.

I think you gotta take him.

Having said that, I think he's long, long gone at that point.

Agreed on both. If he is there with the Carolina pick, it becomes impossible to pass on him. But yes, there is no way he is there. He should not slide out of the top-10, but if he does he will not make it past 15.

I like him.

Wanted to see what others thought of him. He checks a ton of Ranger boxes.

Like him a lot; though I view him as a potential wing at the higher levels.

I think he projects as a middle six/bottom six forward, but like Holloway I think he's a guy who is specifically designed for that role as oppossed to having to transition into it.

There are going to be more skilled options on the board, and maybe some guys with higher ceilings though. That's probably the biggest downside.

Not sure if he's necessarily the BPA with the Canes pick, but he's guy who is projectible as an NHL player with a clearly defined role.

And teams that have strong networks will benefit even more from the draft. Do you have enough insight to know which teams you think it'll benefit the most?

Does anyone else feel like this draft isn't nearly as deep as 2018? That year I felt like a kid in a candy store well into the 2nd round (man, did I blow a head gasket when we drafted Lindbom after trading away our other 2nd rounder). I am having such trouble this year even trying to figure out who I'd like with our CAR first (based on who I THINK will still be available).

I'd keep an eye on a lot of those big market, older clubs.

All your original six teams immediately come to mind.

Tampa hould be in good shape. Vancouver is solid in Sweden. Nashville might surprise some people.

Washington is always solid in Europe. Vegas should be aggressive.

Edmonton almost dealt for Buch last year for 8th. You think maybe they might be interested in the same deal but for 14th this year?

But apparently the team has decided It’s not likely to trade vets for prospects. If someone like Lundell who was a top 5 player on their board was there, I’m not sure why they’d take such a hard line stance, but that’s what they apparently prefer.

I've always felt the the depth of the 2020 was over-stated. For a few years now I ranked it's overall depth behind 2018 and 2019 --- sometimes to quite a bit of pushback.

Re: the Rangers - One thing that's kind of been lost a little bit for the Rangers the past two years, as a result of having lottery victories and being in a position to draft mega-talents, is that the Rangers haven't deviated from their plan to find high character players.

Obviously, they want skill to go with that character. But when you look at why some players score ahead of others, it comes down to how they view the personalities. That's not a knock on guys they rank a little lower, it just means the guys they've really targeted are often guys they feel have a little something extra inside as well.

There's a number of young guys on this squad who have served as captains and associates on their respective junior/college teams. Not just because they were better players and better players tend to wear letters, but because they were actual guides for their teams.

That's one of the things that makes Lafreniere such an ideal pick for the Rangers. In addition to the talent, you have a guy who looks like he is going to be a captain in the NHL.

So I'd keep an eye for those types of personalities --- self motivators, higher motors, guys who really buckle down and put in the work, things of that nature.

Opportunity to get some steals.

the scouts should have known about Lias Andersson's immature issues. quitting on a team. he aint Kovalchuk lmfao

There were no issues.

Literally, none.

You talk to anyone who knew this kid, coached him, played with him, talked to him, they ALL raved about him.

That's what has made this entire debacle so shocking. Something, whatever it may be, went very wrong at some point.

I dunno if he got a stick on it after he popped it off the net but it counts just the same.

The biggest takeaway from that video is how far his skating has already come. The clips are spread out over a few years and hes made some great strides there already.

I feel like this upcoming draft has a lot more potential throughout the first three rounds but with considerably more risk, where as in 2018 I felt "well even if this kid doesn't hit, he can still carve out a role"
