I think the Rangers could justify it by saying it was a three player draft and they got one of those three, plus the top rated defenseman.

I think Ottawa can justify it by pointing to all the picks they've made in recent years and how this gives them the Franchise player who can start learning in the NHL as early as next season. They also still leave the draft having made a later first round pick.

In that sense, Ottawa isn't all that different from the Rangers in the sense that they have to start showing some progress on NHL ice, not just stockpiling tons of potential and hoping it makes its way to an NHL rink. They get an immediate tangible roster player.

I guess I still kind of see Ottawa having kick started their tear down in 2018 as opposed to earlier, but perhaps there's more incentive to show progress than I think there is. From my time spent in Ottawa the last couple years, most people seemed more concerned with getting Melnyk thrown out and the new arena built than what Dorion was doing with the actual team.

From the Rangers perspective, I think they'd have a hard time selling that to the casual fans. To the more hardcore ones who know Byfield and Stutzle have immense potential it's probably a little easier, but then there's of course going to be the "smartest guys in the room" narrative that picks back up. Granted that's meaningless regardless of whether or not they're right but it's a big gamble.

I was thinking about it more in context of a Lundqvist buyout but I think COVID is going to give these front offices all the cover they need to make whatever weird roster moves they want. Just can’t see fans or sports media getting too worked up about any of it.

Personally if the Rangers won the lottery and could turn Lafreniere into Stutzle and Sanderson I'd do it. Byfield and Sanderson would work too. Lafreniere might turn into the biggest stud of them all still but I think Stutzle for one has a legit chance to be just as good. He would be my No. 2. Byfield would be No. 3. If the Kings took Byfield I'd be more than happy to take Stutzle. But anyway Stutzle and Byfield should turn into legit 1st line players and Sanderson into a legit 1st pairing D.

On Sanderson---Niedermayer never really put up huge numbers either. He put up good offensive numbers but he was more an all around defenseman. Looking at Jaccob Slavin in the series we just played--that's what I'd kind of be looking for from Sanderson. The Rangers have offensive D anyway--it's not an issue. Being better in their own zone is an issue--Sanderson IMO would help that a lot. K'Andre Miller, Lindgren, Zac Jones, Matt Robertson--yeah that's too many but it also screams top defense in front of a great young goalie.

I think Lundell is more likely to become a very good 2C than a 1C. He's a potential top 10 pick that might fall into the early teens.

Yeah iv seen KreiderMans twitter polls on the #1 for #3 and #5, and my initial thought was just stick with Lafreniere. But now im second guessing it, Stutzle/Byfield and Sanderson sounds very appealing. I will probably change my mind a few times before the draft

It's honestly closer than I thought it would be

Just to throw something else into the sauce for the fun of it. Let's say you trade 1 for 3 and 5. You get one of Byfield/Stutzle, then Detroit takes Sanderson at 4. Who do you pick to make you feel like the trade was worth it? Perfetti? Quinn? Rossi? Holtz? Drysdale? Raymond?

If Drysdale was left-handed, that would be an easy choice. But out of the forwards left, assuming DET goes with Sanderson, I would go with Holtz.

If we win 1st overall, draft Lafreniere and move Vitali, someone mentioned that earlier here.

We have Kakko and Buch at RW. Where does VK fit? He isn't a 3rd line guy and neither is Buch and i'm keeping Buch since he's proven and you can probably get more back for VK

I still fail to see how trading a right winger affects Lafreniere's position. We still have Panarin and Kreider on the left

I happily take Quinn and wave my dick in the faces of the rest of the Metro.

You can try Laf at RW. Getting Laf gives us an elite prospect at wing, VK can be moved for a center with the same age and upside or a LD.

Rossi for me.

Assuming we lose out on 1OA, What's the lowest Pick we can get? Can we pick 9 or 10 if the right teams lose? Who are we rooting for the best possible outcome.

We still want Toronto and the Canes to lose ASAP correct?

Is the consensus the Rangers are eyeing Sanderson or Lundell?

I believe if the Hawks, Yotes, Wild, Jets, and Canadiens all win, we pick 9th.

Finally doing some research on this draft so playing catch up with you all...but a little ways in and the one guy that makes me scratch my head for why he’s ranked so high is Connor Zary. Seems like a classic Jr superstar...gets away w subpar skating and dangling through everyone at this level, TBD on beyond.

I want him less than I want Holloway.
