the Canes/Leafs pick they get will be close to 20 ...

I think it’s going to be interesting to see where Dawson Mercer ends up.
People are slowing sliding into a routine now and so I’ve been able to ask a bit about him. This is a guy who could sneak into the top 10 or potentially be sitting there in the mid-teens.
There seems to be some groups that view him as a kid who is going to stand out more as a pro and grow nicely into a top 6 role, and there are others who view him as a very nice, but not necessarily spectacular middle six support player.
If the Rangers end up picking somewhere between 11 and 13 and they take him, I'm totally fine with that.
So, in the unlikely scenario that the Rangers lose this play-in round, their pick could either be 1, or 9-14, right?
I think if all Pittsburgh, Edmonton, Vancouver and Nashville all advance the Rangers would be slotted 13. And then if Islanders, Panthers, Jackets or Leafs win the lottery we would slip one spot back. Can't be 14, because one of Calgary or Winnipeg has to advance.
I think the Rangers are going to go in a different direction than the past. I think they will pick a forward prospect with high end offensive talent. In other words, they will seek an anti-Lias. Mercer fits that bill better than Holloway although his skating is somewhat Andersson-esq.

Peep Amirov!!
What are your thoughts on Amirov around 12OA, or of him slipping into the early 20s?
I like him around No. 12. He's got a 200 ft. style game to him, with some underrated offensive ability. His footwork and quick release help a lot in the skill game. I think his best asset, though, is his will to play in all three zones. Pretty high IQ, TBH.
Do you think there is a chance of him still being on the board for us if our second pick ends up around 21-22?
That, plus a looming top-six opening in the middle over the next couple of years, is why the Rangers might at least consider Sudbury’s Quinton Byfield rather than Rimouski’s Alexis Lafreniere if they win the lottery.
