In case of a series loss to Carolina, we are rooting for the following teams to lose this round as well: Penguins, Oilers, Canucks & Predators. I believe if all 4 of those teams lose AND don’t win first overall, we end up with the 9th overall pick. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong.

Currently we are ranked 14th in the draft. If we lose, we pick 9-13 pre-lottery. We can climb 1 spot for each of the following teams winning:

Montreal over Pittsburgh
Minnesota over Vancouver
Chicago over Edmonton
Arizona over Nashville

Each of them are currently ranked lower than us, and would move up while their opponents are ranked higher.

Calgary Flames vs Winnipeg Jets is a match up that automatically has a team jump us as both are ranked lower than us

All this is based on point percentage in the regular season.

I don't know many things in this life, but I do know that if the Penguins lose against the Canadiens, they will get Lafreniere. It's kismet for that horseshoe organization.

sorry i believe this has been covered, ... i wasn't paying attention then 8^(

for the (extremely unlikely) situation where
(a) NYR lose series to Canes and (b) do not get 1OA

- will teams losing in Qualifying be ranked for 2020 draft by points %age?
if so, NYR's draft position, in every round,
should improve with series wins by Cal, Min, Ariz, Chi, Mon?

if i did this correctly, these are the points %ages for teams similar to NYR
FLA 1.1304
NAS 1.1304
VAN 1.1304
NYR 1.1286
CAL 1.1286
WIN 1.1268

MIN 1.1159
ARZ 1.0571
CHI 1.0286
MON 1.000

thanks

The Calgary Flames - Winnipeg Jets matchup is irrelevant. Both teams are ranked lower than us so whoever wins jumps us if we lose

I haven't taken a hard look at these scenarios myself. Just curious why it isn't possible for us to stick at 14th if we lose?

Edit - Winnipeg/Calgary, I see it

Because both Calgary and Winnipeg are ranked below us. They play each other, so regardless of who wins, they jump us in this scenario. It's the exact opposite of Florida vs the Isles or Columbus vs Toronto who are both ranked ahead of us so whoever wins cannot affect our standings

I think it’s going to be interesting to see where Dawson Mercer ends up.

People are slowing sliding into a routine now and so I’ve been able to ask a bit about him. This is a guy who could sneak into the top 10 or potentially be sitting there in the mid-teens.

There seems to be some groups that view him as a kid who is going to stand out more as a pro and grow nicely into a top 6 role, and there are others who view him as a very nice, but not necessarily spectacular middle six support player.

Arizona/Nashville might not matter if the Devils get their way. Friedman reported the Devils are asking the league to review the first round pick since they feel like they are getting screwed if Arizona beats Nashville lol.
The league is supposed to review it.

Friedman didn't go into specifics. He just stated the Devils thought it was unfair based on how season ended. I wouldn't be shocked if they were asking the league to keep the pick at 10 overall instead of it dropping to possibly 16/17/18ish if Arizona were to win. What a joke. Next I'm sure they are gonna ask to keep the Vancouver pick just in case Minnesota beats them in the first round.

The NHL is an absolute goddamn joke if this happens. It is completely plausible that, if the season continued, that ARI goes on a run, makes up the measly 5 points and makes the playoffs.

The debbies. What a bunch of whiny little bitches. NHL execs aren’t that far behind.

Good first games.

Yeah, and especially since this wasn’t a deadline deal (i.e. a deal made at a time the standings were fairly set). Like sure, you trade a player for a lottery pick at the deadline and a few moments afterwards everything is changed and the lottery pick becomes a late pick — I think there are at least a semblance of legal arguments to work with. But here NJD has never acted under conditions that turned out to be false.

The NHL, the owners and NHLPA signed off on a bunch of things in their MOU. If they had a problem with this, they should have brought it up then

With regards to our second draft pick, TOR losing this round is preferred in every scenario, correct?
Yes only negative is them losing is possibly getting the number one pick overall. Other than that Columbus winning is the best route for us especially if we can come back to beat Carolina. If we lose to Carolina then unfortunately it doesn’t matter as much and we then need Carolina to lose before the ECF
