Add in that other teams the Rangers have 3 goalies which is not a desirable situation. They the Rangers would like/kind of have to move him.

Yeah I think Gorton played it correctly leading up to the deadline but unfortunately nobody bit on the deal. Having a flat cap hurts heading into the off-season as well so we'll see just how much the market softened, if at all.

After the playoffs, there may be more teams in the market for a goaltender. Carolina may be one of them and the Rangers have a long history of trading with them.
Team has a ton of forward prospects and even more on the way after this draft (I believe they have two seconds and two third rounders in 2020) so wouldn’t be surprised either.

Were it not for expansion draft exposure problems, a guy I'd love to get from Carolina is Jake Bean since they've got their entire left side locked up long-term, plus guys like Edmundson, Vatanen, and Fleury

Cory Schneider got the 9th pick, Varlamov got the 11th pick and a 2nd, Frederik Andersen got a 1st and a 2nd, Martin Jones got a 1st and a legitimate prospect, Robin Lehner got the 21st pick. So something in the range of a lottery pick to a first plus a material add on has been a pretty standard return over the last 10 years.

By the way, those deals have yielded Bo Horvat, Filip Forsberg, Colin White, Sam Steel, Maxime Comtois, Trent Frederick, and Sean Kuraly.

Schneider’s trade was 7 years ago, Varlamov 8. Jones was sold high and reverted to mean while Andersen was acquired in a sellers market.

Going into expansion there’s a crazy market going on of no assessment of current talent coupled with teams trying to optimize their roster with no visibility.

Rangers best bet is to keep things as is and shop Georgiev closer to the deadline while entertaining the possibility of loaning Hank out to Frölunda with a recall option after SHL over.

If they get the right deal for Georgiev then I’d be ok w Hank and Shesty ... puts some pressure on Wall and Huska though

Was Berube in camp now?

Don't know, but it's just funny that every time a EU free agent is rumoured to sign in the NHL, all over the internet the Rangers are mentioned as " they always get every free agent"

that is for every free agent doesn't matter if they are from europe, college or just regular free agents. the media thinks we are still the old no salary cap rangers and tie us to every player

Add Toronto. Some teams do a very good job of scouting and signing Euro free agents.
Yes definitely. Three major markets and Pittsburgh for obvious reasons.

I am in the minority but I enjoyed the deal 1st at deadline and sign top Euro or NCAA strategy. Those teams are still doing it too but no one calls them out on it. Wouldn’t mind if we went back to that route, albeit with a bit less frequency.

As far as goalies go- it certainly will be an interesting off-season. Markstrom might get a lot more in the open market than in Vancouver, and you have Lehner whose a great fall back option.

You have VAN, LA, SJ, and CGY. All in the Pacific with questionable goaltending. ARI had health issues. EDM doesn't have certainty at the position. CHI needs one, and Crawford isn't it. CAR might need a goalie. OTT & DET need two. So there will be a market. You also have a team like COL that can falter due to goaltending.

So what does that mean? With Markstrom and Lehner being the only UFA options, there will be a bidding war should one of Geo or Hank are on the market. Hank's contract is very managable at 50% after the signing bonus.

I think I asked this before, but I'm a little too busy to be looking through the pages for the question....

Do any of our Swedish posters, or anyone else, knows if the SHL relegation rounds and playoffs are straight up cancelled or if they have an RTP setup. Also, is there any word on if/when the next season starts?

I was looking at rosters and noticed Zion Nybeck is on the main roster for next season with HV71 so I'm just curious, lolol.

Promotion/relegation was flat out cancelled. The new season is set to start Sept 19th barring any restrictions

In case of a series loss to Carolina, we are rooting for the following teams to lose this round as well: Penguins, Oilers, Canucks & Predators. I believe if all 4 of those teams lose AND don’t win first overall, we end up with the 9th overall pick. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong.
