You can try Laf at RW. Getting Laf gives us an elite prospect at wing, VK can be moved for a center with the same age and upside or a LD.

Or we could just play a top prospect in their preferred position instead of trying to move them around. The number of times I've seen the "Kakko at center" or "Kravtsov at center" posts... Lafreniere at RW isn't going to happen. If they pick him, he will be playing behind Panarin and ahead of Kreider in a year or 2

Please no one with subpar skating. I don't care if they have the vision of Panarin

I never suggested those things so take it up with them, not me. If we have lots of wing prospects, it makes sense to trade from that strength to address a weakness. I hope we get Laf and he knocks Kreider down to line 3 and i hope VK takes over the top line RW spot.

This I wholeheartedly agree with.... If only RW was a position of strength for us.

Just to throw something else into the sauce for the fun of it. Let's say you trade 1 for 3 and 5. You get one of Byfield/Stutzle, then Detroit takes Sanderson at 4. Who do you pick to make you feel like the trade was worth it? Perfetti? Quinn? Rossi? Holtz? Drysdale? Raymond?

That's a very good question. I'd probably tend towards Raymond, Rossi or Holtz. I have to say I like guys who are already playing in top flight pro leagues. Stutzle, Raymond, Holtz, Gunler, Reichel, Peterka, Lundell, Amirov are not running up huge numbers but they're punching above their weight class. Skating is very important to me too.

I have to say though that after getting the Hockey Draft Black Book--they really really like Braden Schneider. They have him ahead of Drysdale even. They give him an 8 on Hockey Sense, Compete and Misc.--which is more or less intangibles--a 7 on skating and a 6 on skill. He's also big and strong with a bit of a mean streak. Drysdale the more offensive minded player who leads Schneider by one point on skating and skill and is below him in the other categories. Jamie also more than less in the same vein as other RD we already have. I really don't see the point in Drysdale when we already have 3 smaller offensive RD in DeAngelo, Fox and Lundqvist.

I don't know if it's a result of watching Aho absolutely work the Rangers for three straight games, but I would definitely take a swing on Khusnutdinov with our Carolina first.

Elite skating, skilled and defensively smart. He may have to be left to marinate overseas for a few seasons but he'd be my target if that Carolina 1st is in the 20-31 range (unless Noel Gunler is still on the board).

I have Byfield above Lafreniere for a few reasons:
- I put a lot of weight in age, which I think has a pretty big impact on how much a player improves from their pre-draft level. Obviously Byfield is one of the youngest players in the draft while Lafreniere is one of the oldest.
- My sense is that Byfield and Lafreniere were pretty close outside of the WJC and I don't put a lot of weight on the WJC. It's a small sample in a weird environment with players and systems the players aren't used to where Byfield didn't really get a chance.
- I think Byfield, in addition to playing center, is a more complete player who adds more value at the defensive end of the ice and I think defensive value is very important.

I'd absolutely take Sanderson at 5. You just saw how much of an impact Slavvin was able to make in shutting down Panarin and Mika and what a big effect that had on our team. I think a guy like Sanderson who has the potential to be that kind of player is just as valuable as a top forward.

I love khusnutdinov.

I’d take him over gunler.

There are a few surprises in the Black Book - Jarvis, Persson, Robins all ranked way higher than the consensus.

your other one had me in a pretzel too. I honestly think id let the isles win the cup if it meant we got #1 overall...
That’s a tough one. Some of the old school Ranger fans who attended games at the coliseum in the 80’s and 90’s might not agree with that one

Jarvis and Schneider are two kids I can definitely see going higher if the right team comes up in the draft.

I honestly think Jarvis goes higher if he's coming out of the US program (never thought I'd say that).

Everyone likes him, but not everyone views the skill set as being up their with the top guys. But I think he's going to be in some conversations once you get past some of the very top guys.

I like Lundell too, but between the 2 of them I'd take Jarvis as well. He's got the speed and motor to make it work despite the lack of size.
That would be the deciding factor for me. Speed and aggressiveness such a big factor in big games

Don’t mean to through a wrench into these absurd trade scenarios, but there is a rumor that the Kings are going to do something “interesting and shocking” with the No. 2 pick.

I don’t know what that could mean, whether if it’s a smoke screen or not, but it would raise some eyebrows and add to the discussion.

IMO, think they’re looking heavily into Askarov or either defenseman.

I’ve seen people think they’re going to take Stutzle over Byfield, which I guess would be shocking to some

Trading the pick to us for Staal would qualify as interesting and shocking.

Lets do it LA.
